Unlabelled: Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) is an arthropod-borne, positive-sense RNA alphavirus posing a substantial threat to public health. Unlike similar viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, EEEV replicates efficiently in neurons, producing progeny viral particles as soon as 3-4 hours post-infection. EEEV infection, which can cause severe encephalitis with a human mortality rate surpassing 30%, has no licensed, targeted therapies, leaving patients to rely on supportive care.

Background: Facial prosthetics are an important means to rehabilitate patients with congenital or acquired facial defects. However, with a time-consuming manual workflow and workforce shortage, access to facial prosthetics is limited in Australia and worldwide, especially for rural and remote patients. Optical 3D scanning has been increasingly integrated in digitizing data.

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiential knowledge of tennis coaches as it related to the development of grip positions in tennis athletes. Accredited tennis coaches (n = 11) completed semi-structured interviews consisting of open-ended questions about their coaching background, the importance of grip positions compared with other areas of foundational development, and their opinions on using physically-constraining tools (PCTs). Two major themes, "Grip positions are an adaptive skill" and "Why and how do I modify an athlete's grip?", were identified.

Healthcare delivery and access, both in the United States and globally, were negatively affected during the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was particularly true during the first year when countries grappled with high rates of illness and implemented non-pharmaceutical interventions such as stay-at-home orders. Among children with special healthcare needs, research from the United Kingdom (U.

Introduction: We aimed to determine acceptability and feasibility of innovative wearable alcohol biosensor monitors (ABM) for patients with alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) and their clinicians.

Methods: Patients and clinicians at a tertiary care centre participated in qualitative interviews on usability, acceptability, feasibility, efficiency/effectiveness, impact of device on behaviour/clinical practice and preferences/barriers. Interviews were audiotaped, transcribed and coded using a constant comparison method for category themes.

Background: Delays in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment lead to worse survival and quality of life. Racial disparities in care timeliness have been reported, but few studies have examined access at multiple points along the care continuum (diagnosis, treatment initiation, treatment duration, and genomic testing).

Methods And Findings: The Carolina Breast Cancer Study (CBCS) Phase 3 is a population-based, case-only cohort (n = 2,998, 50% black) of patients with invasive breast cancer diagnoses (2008 to 2013).

Introduction: Gypsies, Roma and Travellers (GRT) frequently experience poorer health outcomes than the general population and represent the most socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in many countries. In general, GRT in OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries have lower rates of literacy than the general population. Although 'health literacy' has been examined before, the link between low functional literacy and its effects on health has not yet been explored.

Delirium is a complex neurocognitive disorder characterized by an acute disturbance in attention, awareness, and perception. It is a dangerous syndrome that is independently associated with higher rates of morbidity and mortality, inpatient complications, and is a predictor of long-term cognitive dysfunction. Although delirium can occur in persons of all ages, the prevalence among and impact on older adults is particularly significant.

We developed an infographic intervention to augment HIV-related education in the Dominican Republic (DR), which demonstrated preliminary success in pilot studies. We then partnered with the United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) HIV Services and Systems Strengthening program in the DR to scale up the intervention. We used a two-tier Training-of-Trainer (TOT) method to teach intervention administration.

  • Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a major cause of heart failure, and this study analyzes genetic factors by examining 14,256 DCM cases and 36,203 participants from the UK Biobank for related traits.
  • Researchers discovered 80 genomic risk loci and pinpointed 62 potential effector genes tied to DCM, including some linked to rare variants.
  • The study uses advanced transcriptomics to explore how cellular functions contribute to DCM, showing that polygenic scores can help predict the disease in the general population and emphasize the importance of genetic testing and development of precise treatments.

Resection, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of the mandible impact function and health related quality of life (HRQOL). In this study, we aimed to understand the impact of delayed versus immediate dental implant placement. A cross-sectional and prospective study was conducted including patients who underwent reconstruction of the mandible via osseous vascularised bone flaps and dental implants.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is transmitted by species of mosquitoes. In 2022, JEV belonging to a previously unrecognized lineage of genotype IV (GIV) caused a major outbreak of JE in South-eastern Australia, resulting in human cases and affecting piggeries. has previously been implicated as the major vector of JEV in northern Australia where the virus has circulated since its first detection in 1995.

Additive manufacturing (AM) defects present significant challenges in fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites (FRTPCs), directly impacting both their structural and non-structural performance. In structures produced through material extrusion-based AM, specifically fused filament fabrication (FFF), the layer-by-layer deposition can introduce defects such as porosity (up to 10-15% in some cases), delamination, voids, fiber misalignment, and incomplete fusion between layers. These defects compromise mechanical properties, leading to reduction of up to 30% in tensile strength and, in some cases, up to 20% in fatigue life, severely diminishing the composite's overall performance and structural integrity.

A huge majority of new chemical entities (NCEs) advancing through the drug discovery pipeline often have poor aqueous solubility. This requires formulation scientists to search for solubility enhancement strategies, within the constraints of time and material. To address these challenges, a strategic platform formulation is often required for a rapid compound screening to enable early exploratory PK and toxicology studies.

  • The study highlights the growing trend of prescribing testosterone for gender affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) in Australia, primarily conducted by general practitioners (GPs), as detailed in AusPATH guidelines.
  • A cross-sectional study named PUSH! Audit was conducted in 9 GP clinics across 5 cities, comparing GAHT patients with cisgender men receiving testosterone for deficiency.
  • Results indicated that GAHT patients were generally younger, had notable health concerns like smoking and anxiety, but showed high monitoring levels and low adverse effects, making GAHT effective in general practice.
