Fostering Advocacy in Pharmacy Students: Strategies for Curricular Integration and Assessment.

Objectives: To discuss teaching and assessment of advocacy skills in student pharmacists as called for in the 2022 COEPA.

Findings: COEPA categorizes advocacy as a skill that should be developed to advance patient care and the profession. This is a change from the 2013 CAPE outcomes where the focus was on advocating for patients.

Patient experiences of behavioural therapy for bipolar depression: A qualitative study.

Background: Although multiple qualitative studies have explored participants' experiences of behavioural activation (BA) for unipolar depression, none have investigated the experiences of BA in people with bipolar depression. This is of particular interest because qualitative studies concerning the experience of receiving therapy can help inform the theory of change underpinning the intervention.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and perspectives of individuals with bipolar disorder who received a course of one-to-one BA for bipolar depression.

Prospective Analysis Comparing the Asthma Control Test (ACT) to the New Subjective Asthma Questionnaire (SAQ-1) for Assessing Asthma Control.

Background Asthma affects millions of patients worldwide. The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) emphasizes the need for individualized treatment based on symptoms and risk of exacerbations. The Asthma Control Test (ACT) is a well-validated tool and considered standard-of-care for assessing asthma control.

Evaluating Fellowship Training for Endobronchial Ultrasound-Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) Using the EBUS-Skills and Task Assessment Tool (STAT) and High-Fidelity Bronchoscopy Simulator.

Background: There are two approaches for endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) training: the traditional apprenticeship approach involving 'see one, do one, teach one', and the computer-based simulation approach. In the traditional approach, the trainee learns under direct supervision from an expert preceptor while performing on patients. In the latter approach, trainees use a high-fidelity bronchoscopy simulator, undertake a skills assessment exam (Endobronchial Ultrasound Skills and Task Assessment Tool (EBUS-STAT)), and receive supervised patient-based training from experienced clinicians.

Augmented Depression Therapy for young adults: A mixed methods randomised multiple baseline case series evaluation.

Augmented Depression Therapy (ADepT) is an individual psychotherapy for depression, which has been shown to be effective in the general adult population. A randomised multiple baseline case series evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of ADepT in young adults (aged 20-24). Eleven depressed young adults were recruited from a UK university wellbeing service to receive ADepT during the COVID-19 pandemic, with outcomes evaluated relative to pre-specified continuation targets.

Does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy with tapering support reduce risk of relapse/recurrence in major depressive disorder by enhancing positive affect? A secondary analysis of the PREVENT trial.

Objective: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is a viable alternative to maintenance antidepressant medication (M-ADM) to reduce risk of relapse/recurrence (RR) in recurrent depression, but its mechanism of action is not yet fully articulated. This secondary analysis of the PREVENT trial examined if MBCT with support to taper medication (MBCT-TS) reduces risk of RR in part by enhancing positive affect (PA).

Method: In a single-blind, parallel, group randomized controlled trial, adults with ≥3 prior depressive episodes, but not currently in episode and who were taking M-ADM, were randomized to receive either MBCT-TS or ongoing maintenance M-ADM.

Comparing Current Practice Habits for Treatment of Subcondylar Fracture Among Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons.

Study Design: Survey.

Objective: Subcondylar fractures stand out as a particular challenge when treating maxillofacial trauma. The fracture site is often difficult to access and adjacent to critical structures like the facial nerve.

Neuronal alpha-Synuclein Disease integrated staging system performance in PPMI, PASADENA, and SPARK baseline cohorts.

The Neuronal alpha-Synuclein Disease (NSD) biological definition and Integrated Staging System (NSD-ISS) provide a research framework to identify individuals with Lewy body pathology and stage them based on underlying biology and increasing degree of functional impairment. Utilizing data from the PPMI, PASADENA, and SPARK studies, we developed and applied biologic and clinical data-informed definitions for the NSD-ISS across the disease continuum. Individuals enrolled as Parkinson's disease, Prodromal, or Healthy Controls were defined and staged based on biological, clinical, and functional anchors at baseline.

Anion Storing Boron Nitride Hybrid Nanosheets for High-Performance Dual Ion and Zinc Alkaline Full Cells.

Hexagonal boron nitride (BN), a well-known member of 2D materials, has a structure similar to graphene and is often referred to as white graphene. Despite its unique physical and chemical properties for energy storage applications, there have been very few studies on how BN stores anion carriers. Herein, the hybrid architecture and anion storage mechanism of BN nanosheets for high-performance hybrid energy storage full cells based on dual-ion and Zinc (Zn) alkaline systems is demonstrated.

Background: The HVTN 705 Imbokodo trial of 2636 people without HIV and assigned female sex at birth, conducted in southern Africa, evaluated a heterologous HIV-1 vaccine regimen: mosaic adenovirus 26-based vaccine (Ad26.Mos4.HIV) at Months 0, 3, 6, 12 and alum-adjuvanted clade C gp140 at Months 6, 12.

An anionic two dimensional covalent organic framework from tetratopic borate centres pillared by lithium ions.

Non-covalent interactions play an important role for the framework formation of two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks. Until now, π-π interactions and hydrogen bonding are the main reported forces facilitating the stacking of framework layers. Here, we present a two-dimensional anionic covalent organic framework based on tetratopic borate linkages, where layers are connected by ionic interactions between the linkage site and counter cations.

Investigating Egocentric Tuning in Hippocampal CA1 Neurons.

Navigation requires integrating sensory information with a stable schema to create a dynamic map of an animal's position using egocentric and allocentric coordinate systems. In the hippocampus, place cells encode allocentric space, but their firing rates may also exhibit directional tuning within egocentric or allocentric reference frames. We compared experimental and simulated data to assess the prevalence of tuning to egocentric bearing (EB) among hippocampal cells in rats foraging in an open field.

Harmonizing tau positron emission tomography in Alzheimer's disease: The CenTauR scale and the joint propagation model.

Introduction: Tau-positron emission tomography (PET) outcome data of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) cannot currently be meaningfully compared or combined when different tracers are used due to differences in tracer properties, instrumentation, and methods of analysis.

Methods: Using head-to-head data from five cohorts with tau PET radiotracers designed to target tau deposition in AD, we tested a joint propagation model (JPM) to harmonize quantification (units termed "CenTauR" [CTR]). JPM is a statistical model that simultaneously models the relationships between head-to-head and anchor point data.

Uncovering 2-D toroidal representations in grid cell ensemble activity during 1-D behavior.

Minimal experiments, such as head-fixed wheel-running and sleep, offer experimental advantages but restrict the amount of observable behavior, making it difficult to classify functional cell types. Arguably, the grid cell, and its striking periodicity, would not have been discovered without the perspective provided by free behavior in an open environment. Here, we show that by shifting the focus from single neurons to populations, we change the minimal experimental complexity required.

High Capacitance Porous Ruthenium Nitride Films with High Rate Capability for Micro-Supercapacitors.

The demand for high-performance energy storage devices to power Internet of Things applications has driven intensive research on micro-supercapacitors (MSCs). In this study, RuN films made by magnetron sputtering as an efficient electrode material for MSCs are investigated. The sputtering parameters are carefully studied in order to maximize film porosity while maintaining high electrical conductivity, enabling a fast charging process.

Bilateral Spontaneous Pneumothoraces in a Case of Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis and Septic Emboli: A Rare Complication.

Acute hypoxemic respiratory failure from infective endocarditis with septic emboli has been attributed to the vicious cycle of tissue damage and inflammatory cytokine response. Spontaneous pneumothorax is a rare complication and can be a late-onset presentation despite appropriate antibiotic therapy. We present a rare case of bilateral spontaneous pneumothoraces in a patient with tricuspid valve endocarditis and septic pulmonary emboli.

Postoperative pain control and opioid use with transversus abdominis plane block and scheduled multimodal pain management in patients undergoing cesarean section.

Objective: The impact of a transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block in patients undergoing cesarean section requires further evaluation. The aim of this study was to compare postoperative pain scores and opioid use in cesarean surgery patients undergoing either a TAP block and scheduled multimodal pain management (SMPM) or SMPM alone.

Methods: In this retrospective, dual cohort study, cesarean surgery patients underwent neuraxial anesthesia and a TAP block (SMPM/TAP) or SMPM; the TAP block incorporated ropivacaine (20-30 mL) administered bilaterally.
