This study examined the effect of short duration, moderate and high-intensity exercise on a Go/NoGo task. Fifteen, habitually active (9 females and 6 males aged 28 ± 5 years) agreed to participate in the study and cognitive performance was measured in three sessions lasting 10 min each, performed at three different exercise intensities: rest, moderate and high. Results indicated significant exercise intensity main effects for reaction time (RT) (p = 0.

Obesity was assessed using IOTF criteria in 8,398 10-16 year olds. Social deprivation was measured using the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) (subdivided into 3 groups; high, mid and low deprivation).

Following ethics approval and parental consent, 248, 6-11 year-old children (112 boys, 136 girls) underwent assessment of 7 FMS: sprint run, side gallop, hop, kick, catch, throw and vertical jump. FMS tertiles ("high", "medium" or "low" FMS) were created based on the summed components of the FMS.

Aim: To model this association incorporating known confounders and to discover whether physical fitness and physical activity may reduce or eliminate this association.
Subjects And Methods: Cross-sectional data were collected between 2007-2009, from 8053 10-16 year old children from the East-of-England Healthy Heart Study.
Unlabelled: This study examined the accuracy of the Phillips et al. GENEActiv accelerometer wrist worn cut-points in children aged 5-8. Fifteen children (six girls, nine boys) aged 5-8 years wore a GENEActiv monitor on their non-dominant wrist while undertaking 5 min bouts of lying supine, playing Lego, walking at slow, medium and fast pace and running.

Twenty competitive badminton players (10 males and 10 females) volunteered to participate in the study following ethics approval. After familiarisation, badminton short-serve performance was measured at rest, mid-way through and at the end of a badminton-specific exercise protocol in two conditions; competition vs.

Methods: 201 adults (81 male, 120 female) aged 50-80 years underwent assessment of body mass index (BMI), body fatness, waist circumference (WC) and 6 measures of functional fitness. Sealed pedometery, worn over 7 days, was used to determine physical activity (PA).
This study aimed to examine Global Positioning System (GPS) determined movement patterns across the 5 most common playing formations (4-4-2; 4-3-3; 3-5-2; 3-4-3; 4-2-3-1) employed in 11 versus 11 football match play in England. Elite male footballers (n=46) were monitored over the course of a season; total distance (TD), high speed running (HSR), high metabolic load distance (HMLD), high speed accelerations (Acc) and decelerations (Dec) data was collected for analysis. It was found that 3-5-2 formation elicited higher TD (10528±565m, p=0.

Introduction: We examined the placebo effect of caffeine and the combined effect of caffeine and caffeine expectancy on maximal voluntary strength.
Methods: Fourteen men completed 4 randomized, single-blind experimental trials: (1) told caffeine, given caffeine (5 mg/kg) (CC); (2) told caffeine, given placebo (CP); (3) told placebo, given placebo (PP); and (4) told placebo, given caffeine (PC). Maximal voluntary concentric force and fatigue resistance of the knee flexors and extensors were measured using isokinetic dynamometry.

UV laser excitation at either 355 or 266 nm results in dissociative charge transfer (DCT), leading to neutral silver atom and benzene cation products. Kinetic energy release in translationally hot benzene cations is detected using a new instrument designed for photofragment imaging of mass-selected ions.

There is no information on whether this may contribute to the progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Methods: We compared actual 6MWT performance against predicted 6MWT in 125 adults aged 50-85 years (62 male, 63 female). In a second sample of 246 adults aged 50-85 years (74 male, 172 female), a new prediction equation for 6MWT performance was developed using allometric modelling.
This study examined coincidence anticipation timing (CAT) performance at slow and fast stimulus speeds before, during, and after an acute bout of walking in adults aged 60-76 years. Results from a series of repeated measures ANOVAs indicated significant rest versus exercise × stimulus speed × time interactions for absolute and variable errors (both P = 0.0001) whereby absolute and variable error scores, when stimulus speed was slow, improved as the duration of exercise increased.

We described the mating behaviour in detail and tested the hypothesis that beetle aggregation plays a vital role in mating in this species. Gender preference was examined in the context of age-dependency and possible chemical communication.
