Study Objectives: To determine the association between adherence to positive airway pressure and healthcare costs among a national sample of older adults with comorbid OSA and common chronic conditions.
Methods: Our data source was a random sample of Medicare administrative claims for years 2016-2019. Inclusion criteria included age >65 years and new diagnosis of OSA.
Polysomnography, the gold standard diagnostic tool in sleep medicine, is performed in an artificial environment. This might alter sleep and may not accurately reflect typical sleep patterns. While macro-structures are sensitive to environmental effects, micro-structures remain more stable.

Methods: HXe-MR data were acquired in two healthy rats and one rat with radiation-induced lung injury using whole-lung spectroscopy and CSI-CSSR techniques. The CSI-CSSR acquisitions were performed with both fixed TE and variable TE.
Lung size measurements play an important role in transplantation, as optimal donor-recipient size matching is necessary to ensure the best possible outcome. Although several strategies for size matching are currently used, all have limitations, and none has proven superior. In this pilot study, we leveraged deep learning and computer vision to develop an automated system for generating standardized lung size measurements using portable chest radiographs to improve accuracy, reduce variability, and streamline donor/recipient matching.

Long utilized in print media, area cartograms have also become increasingly popular online, often accompanying news articles and blog posts. Despite their popularity, there is a dearth of cartogram generation tools accessible to non-technical users unfamiliar with Geographic Information Systems software.

Design: Retrospective analysis.
Subjects And Settings: Data from administrative claims from the CMS Medicare Limited Data Set (5% sample) for all months in 2018 were reviewed.
Background: Speech graph analysis (SGA) of dreams has recently shown promise as an objective and language-invariant diagnostic tool that can aid neuropsychiatric diagnosis. Whilst the notion that dreaming mentations reflect distinct physiologic processes is not new, such studies in patients with sleep disorders remain exceptionally scarce. Here, using SGA and other dream content analyses, we set to investigate structural and thematic differences in morning dream recalls of patients diagnosed with Non-Rapid Eye Movement Parasomnia (NREMP) and Idiopathic REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (iRBD).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLate-onset peripheral neuropathy (LPN) is a heritable canine neuropathy commonly found in Labrador retrievers and is characterized by laryngeal paralysis and pelvic limb paresis. Our objective was to establish canine LPN as a model for human hereditary peripheral neuropathy by classifying it as either an axonopathy or myelinopathy and evaluating length-dependent degeneration. We conducted a motor nerve conduction study of the sciatic and ulnar nerves, electromyography (EMG) of appendicular and epaxial musculature, and histologic analysis of sciatic and recurrent laryngeal nerves in LPN-affected and control dogs.

Study Design: Retrospective analysis of the MarketScan Databases.
Methods: Adults with T2D using SMBG or initiating CGM between January 2018 and March 2019 were eligible for inclusion.
Wobbly hedgehog syndrome (WHS) has been long considered to be a myelin disease primarily affecting the four-toed hedgehog. In this study, we have shown for the first time that demyelination is accompanied by extensive remyelination in WHS. However, remyelination is not enough to compensate for the axonal degeneration and neuronal loss, resulting in a progressive neurodegenerative disease reminiscent of progressive forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in humans.

Methods: Imaging was performed in five healthy volunteers and six chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. The multi-breath XTC protocol consisted of three repeated schemes of six wash-in breaths of a xenon mixture and four normoxic wash-out breaths, with and without selective saturation of either the tissue membrane or red blood cell (RBC) resonances.

Accurately identifying the specific stage in which these disorders occur is particularly important for the correct diagnosis of non-rapid eye movement and rapid eye movement parasomnias. In-lab polysomnography suffers from limited availability and does not reflect habitual sleep conditions, which is especially important in older adults and those with neurodegenerative diseases.

We instituted a novel SPECT/CT reconstruction algorithm using Tc-PSMA and established a database to prospectively accumulate data on all patients referred with PC. This study extracts data on all patients referred over a 3.

Purpose: To demonstrate the utility of continuous-wave (CW) saturation pulses in xenon-polarization transfer contrast (XTC) MRI and MRS, to investigate the selectivity of CW pulses applied to dissolved-phase resonances, and to develop a correction method for measurement biases from saturation of the nontargeted dissolved-phase compartment.
Methods: Studies were performed in six healthy Sprague-Dawley rats over a series of end-exhale breath holds. Discrete saturation schemes included a series of 30 Gaussian pulses (8 ms FWHM), spaced 25 ms apart; CW saturation schemes included single block pulses, with variable flip angle and duration.

Imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, attenuates pulmonary edema and inflammation in lung injury. However, the physiological effects of this drug and their impact on outcomes are poorly characterized. Using serial computed tomography (CT), we tested the hypothesis that imatinib reduces injury severity and improves survival in ventilated rats.

RBD movements may be independent of spatial co-ordinates of the 'outside-world', and instead rely on (allocentric) brain-generated virtual space-maps, as evident by patients' limited truncal/axial movements. To confirm this, a semiology analysis of video-polysomnography records of 38 RBD patients was undertaken and paradoxically restricted truncal/thoraco-lumbar movements during complex dream re-enactments demonstrated.

Follow-on GPRS/mobile data CDRs are currently considered to be more open to misinterpretation than voice/SMS CDRs as uncertainties exist regarding the correspondence between the timestamp and the Cell ID presented within the CDRs. Consequently, follow-on GPRS/mobile CDRs may be disregarded during criminal investigations, potentially losing valuable intelligence and evidence.

Study Design: We modeled disease transitions and costs under the current observed pathway and under an alternative pathway in which VCTE/CAP devices are adopted. Marginal savings (or costs) due to implementing the device are derived by comparing the aggregate costs between the 2 pathways.
Following the success of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for insomnia, there has been a growing recognition that similar treatment approaches might be equally beneficial for other major sleep disorders, including non-rapid eye movement (NREM) parasomnias. We have developed a novel, group-based, CBT-program for NREM parasomnias (CBT-NREMP), with the primary aim of reducing NREM parasomnia severity with relatively few treatment sessions. We investigated the effectiveness of CBT-NREMP in 46 retrospectively-identified patients, who completed five outpatient therapy sessions.

Methods: 34 male Sprague-Dawley rats (260-540 g) were imaged, 4 of which received elastase injection (100 units/kg) as a model for emphysema (EMPH). Gated volumetric CT was performed at end-inspiration (EI) and end-expiration (EE) on separate groups of free-breathing (n = 20) and ventilated (n = 10) rats in the supine position.
