The contribution of urban greenspaces to support biodiversity and provide benefits for people is increasingly recognized. However, ongoing management practices favor vegetation oversimplification, often limiting greenspaces to lawns and tree canopy rather than multi-layered vegetation that includes under- and midstorey, and the use of nonnative species. These practices hinder the potential of greenspaces to sustain indigenous biodiversity, particularly for taxa like insects that rely on plants for food and habitat.

Determination of the preferred reaction pathway of acetophenone on Si(001) using photoelectron diffraction.

The adsorption configurations of a technologically relevant model organic adsorbate on the silicon (001) surface were studied using energy scanned x-ray photoelectron diffraction (PhD). Previous work has established the existence of an interesting vertically-aligned ('flagpole') configuration, where the acetophenone attaches to Si(001) via the acetyl group carbon and oxygen atoms. Density functional theory calculations have predicted two energetically similar variants of this structure, where the phenyl ring is orientated parallel or perpendicular to the rows of silicon dimers on this reconstructed surface.

A qualitative study of antiretroviral therapy adherence interruptions among young Latino men who have sex with men with HIV: Project D.A.I.L.Y.

Consistent antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence is necessary for HIV viral suppression. However, adherence may fluctuate around daily routines and life events, warranting intervention support. We examined reasons for ART adherence interruptions, using in-depth, semi-structured qualitative interviews, among young (18-34-year-old) Latino men who have sex with men (YLMSM) with HIV.

Background: Jordan, a Middle Eastern country, declared a state of national emergency due to COVID-19 and a strict nationwide lockdown on 17 March 2020, banning all travel and movement around the country, potentially impacting mental health. This study sought to investigate the association between mental health (eg, anxiety and depressive symptoms) and sleep health among a sample of Jordanians living through a state of COVID-19-induced nationwide lockdown.

Methods: Using Facebook, participants (n=1240) in Jordan in March 2020 were recruited and direct to a web-based survey measuring anxiety (items from General Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale instrument), depressive symptoms (items from Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale), sleep health (items from the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) and sociodemographic.

Currently, the Epilepsy Bioinformatics Study for Antiepileptogenic Therapy (EpiBioS4Rx) has been enrolling moderate-severe TBI patients with the goal to identify biomarkers of epileptogenesis that may help to prevent seizure occurrence and better understand the mechanism underlying PTE. In this work, we used a novel complex network approach based on segmenting T1-weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans in patches of the same dimension (network nodes) and measured pairwise patch similarities using Pearson's correlation (network connections).

Considering that the world population is rapidly aging and disability is a very frequent event in older adults, there is an increasing interest in studying their determinants, such as the neighborhood characteristics. Thus, this study aimed to explore the association between the social environment of the neighborhood and disability in older adults. A cohort study was assembled using waves 1 and 2 from the Study of Global Ageing and Adults Health (SAGE) in Mexico, which included adults with 55+ years old.

Structural characterisation of molecular conformation and the incorporation of adatoms in an on-surface Ullmann-type reaction.

The on-surface synthesis of covalently bonded materials differs from solution-phase synthesis in several respects. The transition from a three-dimensional reaction volume to quasi-two-dimensional confinement, as is the case for on-surface synthesis, has the potential to facilitate alternative reaction pathways to those available in solution. Ullmann-type reactions, where the surface plays a role in the coupling of aryl-halide functionalised species, has been shown to facilitate extended one- and two-dimensional structures.

The purpose of this study was to examine and quantify spatial mobility among HIV-negative young men who have sex with men (YMSM) within and across high prevalence HIV neighborhoods in New York City (NYC). We completed an analysis with global positioning system (GPS) and survey data to quantify spatial mobility for participants enrolled in the P18 Neighborhood Study (analytic n = 211; 83.4%).

Predicting brain age with complex networks: From adolescence to adulthood.

In recent years, several studies have demonstrated that machine learning and deep learning systems can be very useful to accurately predict brain age. In this work, we propose a novel approach based on complex networks using 1016 T1-weighted MRI brain scans (in the age range 7-64years). We introduce a structural connectivity model of the human brain: MRI scans are divided in rectangular boxes and Pearson's correlation is measured among them in order to obtain a complex network model.

Growth and electronic properties of bi- and trilayer graphene on Ir(111).

Interesting electronic properties arise in vertically stacked graphene sheets, some of which can be controlled by mutual orientation of the adjacent layers. In this study, we investigate the MBE grown multilayer graphene on Ir(111) by means of STM, LEED and XPS and we examine the influence of the substrate on the geometric and electronic properties of bilayer graphene by employing XSW and ARPES measurements. We find that the MBE method does not limit the growth to two graphene layers and that the wrinkles, which arise through extended carbon deposition, play a crucial role in the multilayer growth.

PD-L1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) currently has the most Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals as a companion diagnostic (CDx) for immunotherapies in specific tumor types; however, multiple other immunotherapy biomarkers exist. We performed this study to examine and report the prevalence of PD-L1 expression in a wide variety of tumor types and examine its relationship to microsatellite instability (MSI), tumor mutational burden (TMB), and CD274 (PD-L1) gene amplification. We performed a retrospective analysis of all cases in which both PD-L1 IHC (using the DAKO 22C3 IHC assay with either tumor proportion score (TPS) or combined positive score (CPS); or the VENTANA SP142 assay with infiltrating immune cell score (IC)) and comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) were tested at Foundation Medicine between January 2016 and November 2019.
