Individuals suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and schizophrenia (SCZ) frequently exhibit symptoms of cognitive disassociations, which are linked to poor functional integration among brain regions. The loss of functional integration can be assessed using graph metrics computed from functional connectivity matrices (FCMs) derived from neuroimaging data. A healthy brain at rest is known to exhibit small-world features with high clustering coefficients and shorter path lengths in contrast to random networks.

Background/aims:  Liver fatty acid-binding protein (LFABP) controls hepatocyte lipid metabolism and can be a biomarker in liver diseases. We compared the correlation of LFABP levels with liver histology in viral hepatitis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and investigated the utility of serum LFABP as a biomarker for liver damage.

Materials And Methods:  We included 142 patients (60 chronic viral hepatitis B [CHB], 35 chronic viral hepatitis C [CHC], 47 NAFLD) and 40 healthy controls.

It is crucial to reveal the variability between patients with epilepsy and healthy subjects to elucidate the underpinnings of the disease pathology. Herein, we assessed the inter-subject variability between patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and healthy subjects in terms of estimating the functional connectivity using resting-state functional magnetic resonance (rs-fMRI) scans. According to inter-subject variability results between healthy and TLE population, the latter showed more variability mainly in frontoparietal control, default mode, dorsal/ventral attention, visual and somatomotor networks in line with the broad seizure onset and propagation pathway.

Salamander axolotl has been emerging as an important model for stem cell research due to its powerful regenerative capacity. Several advantages, such as the high capability of advanced tissue, organ, and appendages regeneration, promote axolotl as an ideal model system to extend our current understanding on the mechanisms of regeneration. Acknowledging the common molecular pathways between amphibians and mammals, there is a great potential to translate the messages from axolotl research to mammalian studies.

Background/aims: To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components in patients with Helicobacter pylori that was detected using histopathological diagnostic methods.

Materials And Methods: The study included 200 patients who presented with dyspeptic complaints and had indication for endoscopy. H.

Objectives. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system (CNS). Since a correlation between gluten intake and incidence of MS had been reported, the relationship of antigliadin antibodies and MS was debated.

Aim: To determine the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and globus sensation (GS) in the patients with cervical inlet patch.

Methods: Sixty-eight patients with esophageal inlet patches were identified from 6760 consecutive patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy prospectively.

Background: Factors affecting diagnostic accuracy and comparison of patients in the follow-up period for negative outcomes are not thoroughly investigated in a randomized trial.

Objective: Our purpose was to compare diagnostic accuracy, complications, and number of interventions.

Design: Prospective, unicentric, single-blind, randomized study.

Background/aims: Several reports indicated an increased prevalence of the Helicobacter species in hepatocellular cancer tissue and in liver samples infected with hepatitis viruses. The frequency of Helicobacter spp. in benign liver diseases was, however, not thoroughly investigated.

Background: Heterotopic gastric mucosa (HGM) is commonly seen in the upper esophagus during endoscopyand is generally considered a benign disease. A hyperplastic polyp and an adenocarcinoma arising in heterotopic gastric mucosa are quite rare occurences.

Case Presentations: We present two cases: The first is a patient who suffered from dysphagia because of a large hyperplastic polyp that arose from HGM; the polyp was excised endoscopically.

The aim of this study was to compare different methods of detection of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in the dental plaque of dyspeptic patients. After recording the clinical indices, culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods were performed on plaque samples, while rapid urease test in addition to these tests was carried on gastric samples from 67 dyspeptic patients who attended for an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is an inherited disorder with frequent oesophageal stricture formation. There is no satisfactory medical treatment of dysphagia however; endoluminal balloon dilation is a novel method with satisfactory results. Intrafamilial cases of dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa manifest variable clinical presentations.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the frequency of endoscopic esophagitis and Helicobacter pylori infection in a large Turkish population over a 6-year period.

Methods: We studied a consecutive series of 14,380 patients who had been newly referred for diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy from 2000 to 2006. The mean age value was 45 +/- 10 (18-89) years.
