Genetic disorder in carbohydrates metabolism: hereditary fructose intolerance associated with celiac disease.

Celiac disease (CD) has been associated with several genetic and immune disorders, but association between CD and hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) is extremely rare. HFI is an autosomal recessive disease caused by catalytic deficiency of aldolase B (fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase). We report the case of a 5-year-old boy suffering from CD, admitted with an initial diagnosis of Reye's-like syndrome.

Clinical and laboratory correlations in patients with cystic fibrosis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection: The experience of a regional centre.

Distinguishing the correlations associated with PA infection may change the way in which investigation and therapeutic plans are approached. This study aims to evaluate the correlations between various factors such as age at diagnosis, nutritional status, homozygous status of delF508 mutation, the number of exacerbations per year, imagistic modifications, the presence of chronic infection with Staphylococcus aureus, serum levels of total immunoglobulins G (IgG) and gammaglobulins and ventilation parameters - forced vital capacity (FVC) and one-second forced expired volume (FEV1) and their association with Pa infection.

The role of FENO and spirometry in the evaluation of obstruction in pediatric asthma.

Introduction: The fractional exhaled nitric oxide concentration (FENO) is used as a noninvasive biomarker for asthmatic inflammation. The role in establishing an asthma diagnosis is still under research. Spirometry remains the main investigation for the diagnosis and monitoring of asthma.

The Relations Between Immunity, Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Markers, in Childhood Obesity.

Oxidative stress, inflammation and insulin resistance are the principal culprits in childhood obesity. Immune modifications are also important in the development of the obesity complications.The aim of this study is to find the relations for some immunity parameters with markers for oxidative stress and inflammation.

Randomized, controlled trial of entecavir versus placebo in children with hepatitis B envelope antigen-positive chronic hepatitis B.

Unlabelled: This ongoing, randomized phase III study assesses the safety and efficacy of entecavir versus placebo in nucleos(t)ide-naïve children (2 to <18 years) with hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Blinded treatment was administered for a minimum of 48 weeks. After week 48, patients with HBeAg seroconversion continued blinded treatment; those without switched to open-label entecavir.

Single and multipathogen viral infections in hospitalized children with acute respiratory infections.

We aimed to describe the viral etiology of acute respiratory tract infections in children aged 0-8 years admitted to Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital, the largest pediatric hospital in Romania. The patients had clinical diagnosis of pneumonia, bronchiolitis or viral respiratory infections and had been hospitalized between September 2010 and September 2011. The study was part of the "Molecular investigations of acute respiratory infections caused by non-influenza viruses, to assess the implications of infant and young child pathology" (2008-2011), a National Project II--42-164 (MIRVI).

ASISTASTM telematic assistance for chronic asthma.

The paper presents a system developed for the assistance of diagnosis and treatment of chronic asthma. The system, named ASISTASTM, is a result of an interdisciplinary cooperation and is designed for the physician non specialist in the field of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. The ASISTASTM system offers assistance for the medical act in finding, diagnosing, establishing the therapeutic conduct, tracking over a period of time and hospitalizing the asthma patient ans aims to construct a better patient-medical service provider relationship by use of smart cards for patient's identification and usage of the facilites offered by the Internet.
