Species-level delineation of digenetic trematodes is complex and can be best achieved by integrative taxonomy using both genetic characterisation and morphological analysis. Two new Bucephalidae species of the genus Diesing, 1858 are described here based on specimens collected from the intestine of Jordan & Seale following this approach. Adults of n.

During routine parasitological surveys in the Vaal River system, adult trematodes were collected from the intestine of smallmouth yellowfish, Labeobarbus aeneus (Burchell). The trematodes were confirmed to represent a member of Allocreadium and did not match any existing taxon.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of: (i) water quality, host sex, size and body condition on adult digenean parasite infections; (ii) digenean infections and host sex and size on the oxidative stress biomarkers and body condition of hosts; and (iii) water quality on the oxidative stress biomarkers and body condition in . Water quality variables were measured and were collected each month for a year for examination of two intestinal digeneans, and , and determination of body condition and measurement of biomarkers in the host.

Destruction of the epithelium covering the villi, detachment of epithelial cells and parts of villi were observed. Excessive mucus secretion occurred in the vicinity of the worm and catarrh was observed, indicative of an inflammatory response.

The combination of morphological characteristics and analysis of 18S and 28S rDNA sequences delineated the specimens found in the present study as a distinct species. The new form is distinguished from other Masenia spp.

Eight species belonging to four families were recovered: Metacercariae of Austrodiplostomum compactum (Diplostomidae) and Clinostomum marginatum (Clinostomidae) and mature specimens of Bellumcorpus majus, Prosorhynchoides carvajali, Rhipidocotyle santanaensis (Bucephalidae); Prosthenhystera obesa (Callodistomidae); Genarchella genarchella (Derogenidae) and Phyllodistomum spatula (Gorgoderidae). Examining specimens belonging to the genus Bellumcorpus collected from A.
