We explore light storage in antirelaxation-coated and buffer-gas-filled alkali vapor cells, employing electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in warm rubidium vapor. We conduct a comparative study of light storage performance under identical experimental conditions for these two cell types. Using a buffer-gas-filled cell resulted in approximately a tenfold improvement in memory efficiency and storage time compared to antirelaxation-coated cells.

Segments above the fused spine have higher mobility and they are especially prone to accelerated disc degeneration. The purpose of our study is to investigate early disc degenerative changes two levels above a surgically fused lumbar spine segment and to compare MRI analyses after unilateral and bilateral TLIF procedures.

The aim of this study was to explore the prognosis of patients with juvenile DM regarding diabetic eye complications, as well as the course of the diabetic eye disease related to the treatment undertaken.
Methods: The study series involved 33 patients with juvenile DM during the period 1992-2007.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) end-organ diseases, including CMV retinitis, are major opportunistic events in terminal AIDS patients.
Methods: A retrospective study of 30 AIDS patients with CMV retinitis treated between 1997 and 2007 in Serbia was conducted to examine the prognosis and factors associated with survival.
Results: Eighteen (60%) patients survived the mean follow-up period of 46.
Introduction: Immune recovery vitritis (IRV) is symptomatic vitritis of > 1 + severity associated with inactive cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis. It is an opportunistic infection of the eye, in the patients who suffer from AIDS, and is treated with a highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). As a result of this therapy, there is an immune reconstitution in the body and inflammation of the vitreous body.

The aim of our study was to present a case of irreversible iatrogenic vertical strabismus after cataract surgery, which had to be operated on.
Methods: Clinical and orthoptic evaluation of a female patient with vertical diplopia after phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
Objective of the study was to show the mean values of correction for near vision and to discuss the presbyopic correction in pseudophakic patients. Setting was the Eye department where authors work. Inclusion criteria for 55 patients were native or corrected distant vision of 0.

The optic disc and retinal neovascularization are less prominent and less frequent in myopic eyes in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus. The exact mechanisms of this phenomenon are not well known, but there is some evidence that there is a reduced blood flow in myopic eyes which is associated with less damaged microcirculation in eyes of patients with diabetes mellitus. The aim of our study was to evaluate the correlation between myopic refractive error and degree of diabetic retinopathy.

It is supposed that they are autoimmune diseases, mediated by T cells, but the triggering mechanism is unknown. In the past few years the role of prolactin, as an immunomodulator, has been investigated.

We examined the blood pressure (BP) and body weight (BW) before and after treatment in each patient and visual acuity by gonioscopic examination and optic disk status. After dialysis the statistically significant fall in BP and BW was observed in all patients, and in 28 subject an significant rise in IOP was noted.

Unlabelled: The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of electroretinography in diagnosis of central retinal vein occlusion CRVO. There are two forms of this entity, each of them having a different prognosis. While haemorrhagic form has a better outcome, with fairly good prognosis for vision, ischaemic form usually develops many complications: macular oedema, neovascularisation of the retina or optic disk, neovascular glaucoma, and possible blindness.
