Comparative analysis of light storage in antirelaxation-coated and buffer-gas-filled alkali vapor cells.

We explore light storage in antirelaxation-coated and buffer-gas-filled alkali vapor cells, employing electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in warm rubidium vapor. We conduct a comparative study of light storage performance under identical experimental conditions for these two cell types. Using a buffer-gas-filled cell resulted in approximately a tenfold improvement in memory efficiency and storage time compared to antirelaxation-coated cells.

MRI Assessment of the Early Disc Degeneration Two Levels above Fused Lumbar Spine Segment: A Comparison after Unilateral and Bilateral Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) Procedure.

Background: Adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) has become a great concern as a late complication in patients following fusion spine surgery with a potential need for revision surgery. Segments above the fused spine have higher mobility and they are especially prone to accelerated disc degeneration. The purpose of our study is to investigate early disc degenerative changes two levels above a surgically fused lumbar spine segment and to compare MRI analyses after unilateral and bilateral TLIF procedures.

Juvenile diabetes eye complications and treatment.

Background/aim: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. The aim of this study was to explore the prognosis of patients with juvenile DM regarding diabetic eye complications, as well as the course of the diabetic eye disease related to the treatment undertaken.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) end-organ diseases, including CMV retinitis, are major opportunistic events in terminal AIDS patients.

Methods: A retrospective study of 30 AIDS patients with CMV retinitis treated between 1997 and 2007 in Serbia was conducted to examine the prognosis and factors associated with survival.

[Immune recovery vitritis].

Introduction: Immune recovery vitritis (IRV) is symptomatic vitritis of > 1 + severity associated with inactive cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis. It is an opportunistic infection of the eye, in the patients who suffer from AIDS, and is treated with a highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). As a result of this therapy, there is an immune reconstitution in the body and inflammation of the vitreous body.

Persistent strabismus after cataract extraction.

Orbital swelling as a sign of live Dirophilaria repens in subconjunctival tissue.

This report presents a case of live dirophilaria found in the subconjunctival space in a woman, in whom the main symptoms were swelling of the orbital tissue. After subconjunctival anaesthesia the dirophilaria were removed surgically. A histopathological examination revealed an adult, non-gravid female Dirofilaria repens s.

[Occurrence of changes in the eye in diabetic retinopathy with significant myopia].

The optic disc and retinal neovascularization are less prominent and less frequent in myopic eyes in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus. The exact mechanisms of this phenomenon are not well known, but there is some evidence that there is a reduced blood flow in myopic eyes which is associated with less damaged microcirculation in eyes of patients with diabetes mellitus. The aim of our study was to evaluate the correlation between myopic refractive error and degree of diabetic retinopathy.

[Neuroendocrine response in patients with uveitis].

[Changes in intraocular pressure during dialysis].

We studied 29 patients on dialysis for terminal uremia, of whom one showed a dramatic rise in intraocular pressure (IOP) during dialysis. We examined the blood pressure (BP) and body weight (BW) before and after treatment in each patient and visual acuity by gonioscopic examination and optic disk status. After dialysis the statistically significant fall in BP and BW was observed in all patients, and in 28 subject an significant rise in IOP was noted.

[Role of electroretinography in the prognosis of central retinal vein occlusion].

Unlabelled: The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of electroretinography in diagnosis of central retinal vein occlusion CRVO. There are two forms of this entity, each of them having a different prognosis. While haemorrhagic form has a better outcome, with fairly good prognosis for vision, ischaemic form usually develops many complications: macular oedema, neovascularisation of the retina or optic disk, neovascular glaucoma, and possible blindness.
