Background: Axial disorders are considered to appear late in the course of Parkinson's disease (PD). The associated impact on quality of life (QoL) and survival and the lack of an effective treatment mean that understanding and treating axial disorders is a key challenge. However, upper-body axial disorders (namely dysarthria, swallowing and breathing disorders) have never been prospectively assessed in early-stage PD patients.

CD81 is a cell surface protein which belongs to the tetraspanin family. While in multiple myeloma its expression on plasma cells is associated with worse prognosis, this has not yet been explored in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We measured membrane expression of CD81 on AML cells at diagnosis, evaluated its association with AML characteristics and its influence on patient outcome after intensive chemotherapy in a cohort of 134 patients.

Unlabelled: Dentofacial deformities are dys-morpho-functional disorders involving the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Many authors have reported a TMJ improvement in dysfunctional subjects with malocclusion after orthodontic or combined orthodontic and surgical treatment particularly for the relief of pain. In particular, few studies have highlighted the demographic and clinical predictors of response to surgical treatment.

Purpose: To compare lung perfusion in PAH and pCTEPH on dual-energy CT (DECT) examinations.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-one patients with PAH (group 1; n = 19) and pCTEPH (group 2; n = 12) underwent a dual-energy chest CTA with reconstruction of diagnostic and perfusion images. Perfusion alterations were analysed at a segmental level.

Background: Postprocedural aortic regurgitation occurs in 10 to 20% of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic-valve replacement (TAVR) for aortic stenosis. We hypothesized that assessment of defects in high-molecular-weight (HMW) multimers of von Willebrand factor or point-of-care assessment of hemostasis could be used to monitor aortic regurgitation during TAVR.

Methods: We enrolled 183 patients undergoing TAVR.

Isolation of patients with multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria is recommended to reduce cross-transmission of these bacteria. However, isolation of critically ill patients has several negative side effects. Therefore, we hypothesized that a targeted isolation strategy, based on the presence of at least one risk factor for MDR bacteria, would be not inferior to a systematic isolation strategy at intensive-care unit (ICU) admission.

Introduction The long-term risk of first thrombosis and benefit of prophylaxis in antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) carriers without history of thrombosis or obstetrical morbidity is poorly known. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term rate and risk factors associated with a first thrombosis in those patients. Patients and methods After a prior study ended in December 2005 and was already published, we extended the follow-up period of our cohort of aPL carriers.

Background: Socio-economic status (SES) is a strong determinant of eating behavior and the obesity risk.

Objective: To determine which eating and lifestyle behaviors mediate the association between SES and obesity.

Methods: We performed a case-control study of 318 obese people and 371 non-obese people in northern France.

Background: Little is known about the long-term outcomes of patients who receive an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) for purely secondary prevention indications.

Aims: To assess the rates and predictors of appropriate therapies over a very long-term follow-up period in this population.

Methods: Between June 2003 and August 2006, 239 consecutive patients with structural left ventricular disease and a secondary prophylaxis indication for ICD therapy (survivors of life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias) were prospectively enrolled.

Important discrepancies exist between physicians in deciding when to perform involuntary hospitalization measures (IHMs). The factors underlying these differences are poorly known. We conducted a two-year single-center retrospective study in France on patients who were referred to the emergency department (ED) with an IHM certificate written by a private-practice General Practitioner (GP).

Background: Few reports describe how adverse events (AEs) are reported in cancer surgery trials.

Materials And Methods: We systematically reviewed 179 consecutive study reports issued between January 1, 1990 and November 15, 2014, which investigated surgery in oesophago-gastric (OG) or gynecologic (GY) cancer patients. Based on the reviewed reports, we assessed how AEs were reported according to CONSORT statement.

Background: Internal variation among spheno-orbital meningiomas (SOM) is surgically challenging. Optic canal invasion management is discussed.

Method: This retrospective study includes 70 patients with SOM who underwent surgery between 1995 and 2012.

Background: Dementia occurs in at least 10% of patients within 1 year after stroke. However, the risk of dementia after spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage that accounts for about 15% of all strokes has not been investigated in prospective studies. We aimed to determine the incidence of dementia and risk factors after an intracerebral haemorrhage.

Introduction: Cognitive-behavioural stress management programs have been studied in many countries. Many reports have shown beyond a doubt their efficacy to reduce perceived stress, anxiety symptoms and to improve quality of life of patients. Considering the very large number of people who could benefit from such programs but are unable to reach them, self-help programs have been offered.

Background: Beneficial effects of tranexamic acid (TA) have been established in surgery and trauma. In ongoing postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), a moderate reduction of blood loss was observed in a previously published randomized controlled trial. Analysis of haemostasis parameters obtained from samples collected as part of this study are presented.

Background: The benefit of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) for early-stage oesophageal cancer is unknown. The aim of this study was to assess whether NCT improves the outcome of patients with stage I or II disease.

Methods: Data were collected from 30 European centres from 2000 to 2010.

Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of tocilizumab, rituximab and abatacept after a non-tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (non-TNFi) failure for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Materials And Methods: This retrospective multi-centre study included patients treated for RA with abatacept, rituximab or tocilizumab after having received in the previous line the first non-TNFi. Data were collected from patient charts.

Purpose: To evaluate the impact of CT perfusion imaging on the detection of peripheral chronic pulmonary embolisms (CPE).

Materials And Methods: 62 patients underwent a dual-energy chest CT angiographic examination with (a) reconstruction of diagnostic and perfusion images; (b) enabling depiction of vascular features of peripheral CPE on diagnostic images and perfusion defects (20 segments/patient; total: 1240 segments examined). The interpretation of diagnostic images was of two types: (a) standard (i.

Objectives: The respective role of disease activity and steroid therapy in growth impairment in paediatric-onset Crohn disease (CD) is still debated. Our aim was to investigate whether the growth pattern of children with CD was correlated with the inflammatory status during the disease course, regardless the cumulative duration of steroid therapy.

Methods: One hundred and seven patients with a diagnosis of CD <17 years, followed during ≥2 years and for whom ≥2 height measures were available during follow-up, were identified between 1998 and 2010.

Objective: To evaluate prospectively the performance of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for the detection of active lesions on MR enterography (MRE) in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Methods: MRE of 48 children (mean age 13 years) with suspected or known IBD were blindly analysed by 2 independent readers for the presence of active lesions. Two sets of imaging including DWI and gadolinium-enhanced imaging (GEI) were reviewed.
