Based on the pivotal trial showing no clinically relevant differences between α-2b (Peg-α-2b) and α-2a (Peg-α-2a) combined with ribavirin for treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection in Ukraine, a cost-minimization analysis was performed using a 1 year time horizon and both a health care and patients' perspective. A decision tree reflects treatment pathways. Drug costs were based on drug labeling and adjusted to the average body mass in Ukraine.

The scientific structure and function heart in 65 working age men according to weight and body composition. The shown that the excess body weight observed a significant increase in the size and volume left ventricle of the heart and myocardial mass. The percentage of muscle mass in the body of the patients positively correlated with systolic function of the heart, while the percentage of body fat had a negative correlation with this index.

Unlabelled: Glycerol phenylbutyrate (GPB) lowers ammonia by providing an alternate pathway to urea for waste nitrogen excretion in the form of phenylacetyl glutamine, which is excreted in urine. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase II trial enrolled 178 patients with cirrhosis, including 59 already taking rifaximin, who had experienced two or more hepatic encephalopathy (HE) events in the previous 6 months. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with HE events.

Background Aims: Anemia is a common complication of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) This multicenter study tested the noninferiority and safety of a new intravenous iron preparation, ferric carboxymaltose (FeCarb), in comparison with oral ferrous sulfate (FeSulf) in reducing iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in IBD.

Methods: Two hundred patients were randomized in a 2:1 ratio (137 FeCarb:63 FeSulf) to receive FeCarb (maximum 1,000 mg iron per infusion) at 1-wk intervals until the patients' calculated total iron deficit was reached or FeSulf (100 mg b.i.

Aim: To study persistence in blood mononuclear leukocytes (ML) of Herpesviridae viruses (cytomegalovirus-CMV, herpes virus of type I and II, Epstein-Barr virus-EBV, hepatitis B and C viruses, Mycoplasma arthritidis-Ma,, Mycoplasma fermentans-Mf, Ureaplasma urealiticum-U, Chlamydia trachomatis-Ct).

Material And Methods: 56 patients with debut of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 30 healthy persons were examined using methods of direct and indirect immunofluorescence, polymerase chain reaction and enzyme immunoassay.

Results: In patients with early RA persistence of infective agents in blood ML was found high (67.

The authors studied the cardiac rhythm regulation status in 122 patients with duodenal ulcer. The studies were done by using a method of mathematical analysis of cardiac rhythm. Features of cardiac rhythm regulation in duodenal ulcer patients are as follows: central type disturbances in regulation mechanisms; normo- or vagotonic type regulation of cardiac rhythm; sufficiently stable in time status of vegetative homeostasis determining the course (prognosis) of the illness.

The article presents data on the features of local immune reaction in lamina propria of colonic mucosa in patients with severe unspecific ulcerous colitis. Identification of immunocompetent cells with monoclonal antibodies, considered the most effective method to date, was used in the study. Number of immunocompetent cells in lamina propria of colonic mucosa was established to be significantly higher in patients with severe UUC as compared to that of the control group, subpopulations of B-lymphocytes prevailing.

Rosette-forming with sheep's erythrocytes (EAC-RF) and monoclonal antibodies (MCA) were used for account of cell populations and subpopulations in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It was established that MCA technique does increase accuracy of quantitative determination of immunocompetent cells in such patients but on the whole EAC-RF which is at present more accessible method can be considered quite acceptable for estimation of immune reactivity in nonspecific inflammatory diseases of the colon.

The authors examined the efficacy of a new native agent of lipolytic action (nigedase, made in the USSR) used for the treatment of digestive disorders in 62 patients with chronic diseases of the pancreas and enterocolitis. Nigedase should be taken 1-2 tablets daily for 3-4 weeks. By its lipolytic action nigedase is more active than festal.
