Article Synopsis
  • The study used array-based comparative genomic hybridization to examine DNA changes in uterine leiomyosarcoma, finding significant genetic alterations in all samples examined.
  • Uterine leiomyoma showed no genetic changes, while leiomyosarcoma exhibited 4.86% average gains and 15.1% average losses in DNA, with specific regions identified for both.
  • The research concluded that these chromosomal alterations could help identify potential target genes for further study using the high-resolution capabilities of array-CGH combined with genomic databases.

Purpose: This study utilized mRNA differential display and the Gene Ontology (GO) analysis to characterize the multiple interactions of a number of genes with gene expression profile involved in squamous cell cervical carcinoma.

Methods: mRNA differential displays were used to identify potential transcripts that were differentially expressed between cervix cancers of 13 patients (invasive cancer stages Ib-IIb) and universal reference RNAs comprised of 17 different normal cervixes. Aberrant bands were excised and used to make cDNA, which was sequenced.
