Diagnostic load testing refers to the use of the measured historical responses of the structure in the field data to better understand its dynamic and static structural behaviours. It is important and necessary to predict the health state, load capacity, and aging of the structure by updating the finite element (FE) model, which can give useful information to aid the design of retrofits and the maintenance of the existing bridge in the future. The paper presents an update of the full-scale FE model for the reinforced concrete (RC) bridge structure over the seawater river based on the experimental strains under the static load testing in which the representative FE model of the actual structure is determined from the optimisation procedures.

This work presents a novel approach to synthesizing magnetic core-shell nanocomposites, consisting of magnetic nanoparticles and a metal-organic framework, for environmental applications. The synthesis is based on the encapsulation of magnetic FeO nanoparticles with microporous zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanocrystals via ultrasonic activation under a continuous supply of precursor solutions. This sonochemical approach is proven to be a fast, cost-effective, and controllable route for the preparation of magnet-responsive FeO@ZIF-8 nanoparticles with a core-shell structure.

Naturally abundant vermiculite clay was expanded by using an aqueous solution of HO and its surface was modified with ultra-thin polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) using facile thermal vapor deposition to prepare an ecologically friendly, low-cost oil sorbent that plays an important role in oil spillage remediation. The resulting PDMS-coated expanded vermiculite (eVMT@PDMS) particles exhibited adequate hydrophobicity and oleophilicity for oil/water separation, with numerous conical slit pores (a size of 0.1-100 μm) providing a great sorption capacity and an efficient capillarity-driven flow pathway for oil collection.

By electron beam evaporation, noble metals (Au, Co, Pt, and Ag) with 2 and 4 nm nominal thicknesses were coated onto multi-walled carbon nanotube layers. The metals were in the form of nanoparticles mounted onto the side walls of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to create a metal/CNT junction. The kinetics of the adsorption of NO3- ions on a PP-g-AA-Am non-woven fabric have been investigated under equilibrium conditions in both batch and fixed bed column processes. In this study, we investigated the removal of phosphate from aqueous solutions using (vinylbenzyl)-trimethylammonium chloride (VBTAC) grafted onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers (PET-g-VBTAC). Batch-mode experiments were conducted using various contact times, initial phosphate concentrations, temperatures, pH values, and competing anions, to understand phosphate sorption onto PET-g-VBTAC. The phosphate sorption capacity of PET-g-VBTAC increased with increasing solution pH and was highest near pH 7.

This study investigated trace metals in water, sediment, and various organs of the mature eel Anguilla marmorata in the Ba River, Vietnam. The metal concentrations in water and sediment did not exceed the Vietnam water criteria and sediment background concentration, except for Mn and Pb in sediment. The results of metal analysis in eel specimens indicated that the liver and kidney were the dominant organs for almost all trace metals, whereas muscle tended to accumulate high levels of Hg and approximately 87.
