Vendor-independent software tools for quantification of small molecules and metabolites are lacking, especially for targeted analysis workflows. Skyline is a freely available, open-source software tool for targeted quantitative mass spectrometry method development and data processing with a 10 year history supporting six major instrument vendors. Designed initially for proteomics analysis, we describe the expansion of Skyline to data for small molecule analysis, including selected reaction monitoring, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and calibrated quantification.

In orbital reconstruction, the acquired position of an orbital implant can be evaluated with the aid of intraoperative navigation. Feedback of the navigation system is only obtained after positioning of the implant: the implant's position is not tracked in real time during positioning. View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: Patients older than 80 years have significantly lower early mortality with endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) compared with open repair for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), but long-term results remain poorly studied. We analyzed the results of both emergent and elective AAA repair in patients aged 80 years or older who had at least 5 years of follow-up.
Methods: Retrospective review of a prospectively collected vascular surgery database was performed to identify all patients who underwent elective repair of an AAA between 2007 and 2012 and were 80 years of age or older at the time of surgery.
The COllaborative project of Development of Anthropometrical measures in Twins (CODATwins) project is a large international collaborative effort to analyze individual-level phenotype data from twins in multiple cohorts from different environments. The main objective is to study factors that modify genetic and environmental variation of height, body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) and size at birth, and additionally to address other research questions such as long-term consequences of birth size. The project started in 2013 and is open to all twin projects in the world having height and weight measures on twins with information on zygosity.

Methods: OVID Medline and Embase were searched for studies from January 2000 to December 2018 that had compared endovascular vs open repair of juxtarenal aortic aneurysms. Studies that had included patients with pararenal and suprarenal aneurysms were also included.
Objective: This study aimed to determine how inmates' body weight changed during incarceration in Canadian federal penitentiaries, based on their history of tobacco use. Since tobacco was banned from all Canadian federal penitentiaries in 2008, little is known about the unintended health consequences of this ban, especially on inmates' body weight.
Design: Cohort study.
Background: Randomized controlled trials of long-term survival for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms have compared open surgical repair (OSR) with endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in patients with suitable aortic anatomy for EVAR. However, in clinical practice, patients who do not meet instructions for use (IFU) criteria are often still treated by EVAR despite that some studies show higher graft-related adverse events. The goal of this study was to compare the long-term survival of EVAR and OSR in patients with anatomy outside IFU criteria for EVAR.

Patients And Methods: In three cases, cranial resections were combined with direct reconstructions using the principles of computer-aided design, manufacturing, and surgery. The precision of the resection template was evaluated through a distance map, comparing the planned and final result.
Hypoxia-activated prodrugs (HAPs) are designed to specifically target the hypoxic cells of tumors, which are an important cause of treatment resistance to conventional therapies. Despite promising preclinical and clinical phase I and II results, the most important of which are described in this review, the implementation of hypoxia-activated prodrugs in the clinic has, so far, not been successful. The lack of stratification of patients based on tumor hypoxia status, which can vary widely, is sufficient to account for the failure of phase III trials.

Childhood obesity is a predictor of adult obesity and has its roots in the pre-pregnancy or pregnancy period. This review presents an overview of the prenatal risk factors for childhood obesity, which were categorized into 2 groups: biological risk factors (maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index, gestational weight gain, diabetes in pregnancy, and caesarean section), and environmental and behavioural risk factors (maternal smoking and exposure to obesogens, maternal dietary patterns, maternal intestinal microbiome and antibiotics exposure, and maternal psychosocial stress). Identifying modifiable predisposing prenatal factors for obesity will inform further development of inventions to prevent obesity over the life course, and future directions for research and intervention are discussed.
