Two light-harvesting antenna molecules were obtained by positioning naphthalene monoimide energy donors at the imide position, instead of the bay positions, of perylene imide energy acceptors. Background: Diosmin is a flavonoid obtained from the citrus fruits of the plants. Diosmin has blood lipid lowering activities, antioxidant activity, enhances venous tone and microcirculation, protects capillaries, mainly by reducing systemic oxidative stress.

In the present study the potentials of aqueous extracts of the two plants, neem () and Tulsi () were examined in alleviating arsenic toxicity in rice ( L.) plants grown in hydroponics. Genetic screens in cultured human cells represent a powerful unbiased strategy to identify cellular pathways that determine drug efficacy, providing critical information for clinical development. We used insertional mutagenesis-based screens in haploid cells to identify genes required for the sensitivity to lasonolide A (LasA), a macrolide derived from a marine sponge that kills certain types of cancer cells at low nanomolar concentrations. Curiosity is considered to be the essence of science and an integral component of cognition. What prompts curiosity in a learner? Previous theoretical accounts of curiosity remain divided-novelty-based theories propose that new and highly uncertain stimuli pique curiosity, whereas complexity-based theories propose that stimuli with an intermediate degree of uncertainty stimulate curiosity. In this article, we present a rational analysis of curiosity by considering the computational problem underlying curiosity, which allows us to model these distinct accounts of curiosity in a common framework.

Plant beneficial rhizobacteria (PBR) is a group of naturally occurring rhizospheric microbes that enhance nutrient availability and induce biotic and abiotic stress tolerance through a wide array of mechanisms to enhance agricultural sustainability. Application of PBR has the potential to reduce worldwide requirement of agricultural chemicals and improve agro-ecological sustainability. The PBR exert their beneficial effects in three major ways; (1) fix atmospheric nitrogen and synthesize specific compounds to promote plant growth, (2) solubilize essential mineral nutrients in soils for plant uptake, and (3) produce antimicrobial substances and induce systemic resistance in host plants to protect them from biotic and abiotic stresses.

A diverse series of compounds (18a-x) were synthesized from ()-1-(chloromethyl)-8-methoxy-2,3-dihydro-1-benzo[]indol-5-ol (-MCBI) and benzoselenophene or heteroaromatic acids. These new compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against the human gastric NCI-N87 and human ovarian SK-OV3 cancer cell lines. The incorporation of a methoxy substituent at the C-7 position of the -CBI unit enhances the cytotoxicity through its additional van der Waals interaction and gave a much higher potency than the corresponding -CBI-based analogues.

Perylene diimides (PDIs) are attractive chromophores that exhibit singlet exciton fission (SF) and have several advantages over traditional SF molecules such as tetracene and pentacene; however, their photophysical properties relating to SF have received only limited attention. In this study, we explore how introduction of bulky bromine atoms in the so-called bay-area PDIs, resulting in a nonplanar structure, affects the solid-state packing and efficiency of singlet fission. We found that changes in the molecular packing have a strong effect on the temperature dependent photoluminescence, expressed as an activation energy.

Rechargeable magnesium batteries are appealing as safe, low-cost systems with high-energy-density storage that employ predominantly dendrite-free magnesium metal as the anode. While significant progress has been achieved with magnesium electrolytes in recent years, the further development of Mg-ion batteries, however, is inherently limited by the lack of suitable cathode materials, mainly due to the slow diffusion of high-charge-density Mg-ions in the intercalation-type host structures and kinetic limitations of conversion-type cathodes that often causes poor cyclic stability. Nanostructuring the cathode materials offers an effective means of mitigating these challenges, due to the reduced diffusion length and higher surface areas.
