The Questionnaire for Patient-Surgeon Relationship (Q-PASREL) is a French "Patient-Reported Experience Measure" for hand surgery patients. It is the only one which considers the impact of the patient-surgeon relationship on time to return to work and cooperation by the surgeon for administrative issues. It has been shown that a good Q-PASREL score is associated with shorter sick leave and faster return to work.

Background: Intra-articular fractures and fracture-dislocations of the ulnar-sided carpometacarpal joints (US-CMC) are common and under-reported. Their diagnosis is often delayed or incomplete, and there is no consensus as to the best treatment. The aim of this systematic literature review was to focus on the quality of existing data and to describe in detail the available evidence on the diagnosis and treatment of these lesions.

Background: Upper-limb injuries and musculoskeletal disorders represent a major economic burden for both patients and society, largely due to limitations in returning to work. We hypothesized that a positive patient-surgeon relationship may facilitate patients' recovery and lead to a faster return to work.
Methods: This longitudinal observational study comprised 219 patients, from 8 French hand trauma centers, who were 18 to 55 years of age and were on sick leave from work because of an injury or musculoskeletal disorder of the upper limb.
: To date, no specific instruments exist to measure the quality of the patient-surgeon relationship despite its potential to influence clinical and economic outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). : The objective was to develop and validate an instrument to assess the quality of the patient-surgeon relationship, taking into account the return to work after functional restoration surgery. : The instrument development was based on literature review, cognitive interviews and expert examinations.

The goal of this study was to determine the duration of sick leave for patients who had 6 weeks of K-wire immobilization instead of cast immobilization after surgical repair of the UCL. This prospective, observational, non-comparative study included patients who had surgical repair of the UCL of the thumb MCP joint followed by K-wire immobilization.

We believe it is logical to perform ligamentoplasty in order to obtain long-term stability and therefore treat dorsal subluxation. Our aim is to verify this hypothesis in an observational prospective study of LRTI using the entire flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon.

The International classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF), is a WHO multi-dimensional approach to health condition including three domains: body "functions and structures", activities and participation. The aim of this study was to measure how often these three ICF domains were included in outcome measurements of the clinical series published in the American, European and French hand surgery journals.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOf marginal importance only 20 years ago, outcome measurement has become one of the most widely published topics in medical literature. The concept of global health is described by the International Classification of Function, Disability and Health. Today, the surgeon's perspective is no longer sufficient to evaluate global health condition of a patient.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFHand injuries are very common, especially in young adults of working age, and the consequences of these accidents on work capacity are significant: for the patient, a seemingly simple wound can cause prolonged time off work and jeopardize the pursuit of his career; for the community, the financial burden is colossal, mainly because of compensation, which represents 80% of the total cost (time off work and indemnity for sequelae). While substantial progress have been made in the prevention of occupational accidents, which account only for one third of hand injuries, improving the management of hand trauma should be undertaken through a better organization of existing resources and in particular: the prevention of domestic accidents, the orientation of the patients to an appropriate hand trauma center and patient coaching systematically when time off work exceeds three months. These measures have been shown in the literature to greatly improve the rate and speed of return to work.

FESUM is an association dedicated to management, research and education of hand trauma. Created by surgeons in 1979, it is now accepted by the national and regional health administrations. The first goal of FESUM is to apply strict guidelines for specialized hand trauma centers.

Many surgical techniques have been described to repair these injuries. The goal of our study is to assess the clinical results after capsulodesis with the scaphotriquetral ligament for scapholunate instabilities.

We present a new technique of pulley enlargement that preserves its continuity without suturing. The principle of this technique is to excise 2 opposite symmetric triangles. For each of these triangles, the incision starts in the middle of the edge of the pulley and ends beyond the middle of its length.

The procedure of stabilized arthroplasty we present in this paper aims at a global functional restoration of old fracture dislocations of the fifth carpometacarpal joint. The conflict is eliminated by resecting the base of the metacarpal, whereas length of the fifth digit ray is restored by fusion to the adjacent fourth metacarpal. Fifth metacarpal mobility is maintained via transfer to the fourth carpometacarpal joint.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-nine patients with 40 nerve sections were retrospectively reviewed with a mean follow up of 23 months. The median nerve alone was affected 20 times, the ulnar nerve seven times and both nerves simultaneously 13 times.
Patients must be informed of the benefits and risks before any surgical procedure. This information must be clear, honest, specific and complete in order that the patient can give his or her informed consent. This information has to be given face to face, however paper may be used to emphasize certain points and aid retention of information.

Having frequently observed the inclusion of fascicle in the tumor, we wanted to verify the absence of deficit in a retrospective survey. Our survey is composed of 14 patients operated of schwannoma of the superior member and whose mean age is 53 years old.

We checked whether this success was maintained long term in five cases of emergency reimplantation. The significant initial shortening of 93 mm, on average, enabled direct internal osteosynthesis, secondary lengthening was initiated swiftly, in the proximal metaphyseal area, and average lengthening was 85 mm.

Each patient is evaluated by considering three groups of criteria. The criteria in the first group are evaluated by the patients themselves (self-evaluation), those in the second group are evaluated by a medical observer (clinical examination) and those in the third group are evaluated by the community (socio-professional aspects).

Resection of one slip of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) changes this complex arrangement into a two parallel tendons pattern, which makes it much easier, particularly when using the suture technique.
