Microalgal biotechnology has become a promising field of research for the production of valuable, sustainable and environmentally friendly byproducts, especially for carotenoids. Bulk accumulation of secondary carotenoids in microalgae are mostly induced by oxidative stress of cells. In this research, we investigated the effects of antioxidant enzyme activity inhibition on carotenogenesis in a microalga MT1.

Although has been developed for astaxanthin production for decades, the production cost is still high. In order to modify the production processes, we proposed a novel strategy of cultivation, featured by sequential indoor continuous mixotrophic cultivation for the production of green cells followed by outdoor phototrophic induction for astaxanthin accumulation. The continuous mixotrophic cultivation was first optimized indoor, and then the seed culture of mixotrophic cultivation was inoculated into outdoor open raceway ponds for photoinduction.

Cryogenic treatments and cryoprotective agents (CPAs) determine the survival rate of organisms that undergo cryopreservation, but their mechanisms of operation have not yet been characterised adequately. In particular, the way in which membrane lipids respond to cryogenic treatments and CPAs is unknown. We developed comparative profiles of the changes in membrane lipids among cryogenic treatments and between the CPAs dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and methanol (MeOH) for the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

Objective: To study tissue culture of Trichosanthes kirilowii, and establish the technique of rapid propagation.

Methods: Cluster buds were induced from stem tip and stem with axillary bud, calluses were induced from stems and leaves.

Results: Cluster buds could be induced on both the bud and axillary bud from 2-years-old tuber of Trichosanthes kirilowii with MS medium containing 2 mg/L BA and 0.
