Carbon black has always played a pivotal role in reinforcing elastomers because it remarkably improves the mechanical properties. The reinforcing effect of carbon black is influenced by its grades, which mainly depend on the difference in the structure of the carbon black particles. Despite many traditional experiments on the performance of carbon black composites, there has been less emphasis on reinforcement mechanisms due to the challenges associated with unraveling the intermolecular interactions.

Many studies indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic had significant impacts on construction safety. However, the studies had differing views on whether the pandemic increased or decreased construction safety performance. Furthermore, past studies did not adopt a comparative time series approach to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on construction safety.

MYCN amplification is an independent risk factor for poor prognosis in neuroblastoma (NB), but its protein product cannot be directly targeted because of protein structure. Thus, this study aimed to explore novel ways to indirectly target N-Myc by regulating its post-translational modifications (PTMs) and therefore protein stability. N-Myc coimmunoprecipitation combined with HPLC-MS/MS identified 16 PTM residues and 114 potential N-Myc-interacting proteins.

The chemical recycling of end-of-life polylactic acid (PLA) plays roles in mitigating environmental pressure and developing circular economy. In this regard, one-pot tandem alcoholysis and hydrogenation of PLA was carried out to produce 1,2-propanediol, which is a bulk chemical in polymer chemistry. In more detail, the commercially available Raney Co was employed as the catalyst, and transformation was conducted in ethanol, which acted as nucleophilic reagent and solvent.

Articular osteochondral injury is a common and frequently occurring disease in orthopedics that is caused by aging, disease, and trauma. The cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a crucial mediator of the inflammatory response, which exacerbates damage during chronic disease and acute tissue injury. Human Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stem cell (HWJMSC) extracellular vesicles (HWJMSC-EVs) have been shown to promote cartilage regeneration.

Two kinds of chiral hosts, named (/)-BN-mCP and (/)-BN-2mCP, are prepared. Solution processable circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs) based on the chiral hosts and achiral emitter Ir(mypp) present the maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) and dissymmetry factor values () of 12.7%/-1.

Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is one of the critical chiroptical properties for chiral nanomaterials, which exhibit wide potential applications in many research fields. However, it remains a big challenge for real application, limited by their small luminescence dissymmetry factor or low emission intensity. Here, an upconverted near-infrared circularly polarized luminescence (UC-NIR-CPL) system is constructed based on the chiroptical property of chiral liquid crystals, embedding with the lanthanide-doped upconversion nanoparticles.

Selenium (Se) is essential for successful male reproduction. However, the association of Se status with human semen quality remains controversial and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. We measured seminal plasma Se concentrations, sperm mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn), and sperm quality parameters among healthy Chinese men screened as potential sperm donors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights the dangers posed by aromatic amines to human health and the environment, emphasizing the urgent need for quick and sensitive detection methods.
  • It introduces a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique using gold nanostars-modified silver nanorods for detecting harmful substances like benzidine and 4-aminobiphenyl (4-ABP).
  • The method demonstrates rapid detection capabilities with low detection limits and can be applied to real-world situations, such as testing river water samples in under 3 minutes, making it suitable for on-site environmental monitoring.

The biomechanical stimulus is the most important factor for fracture healing and mainly determined by the structural stiffness of bone plate. Currently, the materials commonly used in bone plates are stainless steel and titanium, which often lead to stress shielding effects because of their higher elastic modulus compared with the bone. This article suggests an optimal design method of lattice bone plate based on fracture healing theory.

The development of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)-active materials with both large luminescence dissymmetry factor (g) and high emission efficiency continues to be a major challenge. Here, we present an approach to improve the overall CPL performance by integrating triplet-triplet annihilation-based photon upconversion (TTA-UC) with localized surface plasmon resonance. Dye-loaded chiral micelles possessing TTA-UC ability are designed and attached on the surface of achiral gold nanorods (AuNRs).

Organic semiconductors have been discovered to exhibit impressive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity recently. However, owing to the underdeveloped candidate materials and relatively low SERS sensitivity, practical application of SERS detection based on organic materials is still a challenge. Herein, we explored ways to further enhance the SERS sensitivity of π-conjugated fluorinated 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane derivatives (FTCNQ, = 2, 4) by utilizing the charge-localization effect induced by two-dimensional (2D) MoS flakes.

a copper-catalyzed three-component annulation reaction, we herein report a new method for the direct and -selective construction of cyclic ether-fused tetrahydroquinolines from readily available secondary anilines, saturated five or six-membered cyclic ethers, and paraformaldehyde. The synthesis features operational simplicity, excellent step and atom efficiency, good functionality and substrate compatibility. In comparison with the reported synthetic protocols capable of synthesizing -alkyl fused tetrahydroquinolines, this newly developed chemistry allows access to both -alkyl and -aryl products.

Multilayer hyperbolic metamaterial (HMM)-based SERS substrates have received special consideration because they accommodate various propagation modes such as surface plasmonic polaritons (SPP). However, the SPP modes are difficult to generate in HMM due to their weak electric field enhancement. In this article, we designed novel SERS substrates consisting of graphene-covered AgNPs and HMM.

Grain size is an important agronomic trait, but our knowledge about grain size determination in crops is still limited. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated degradation (ERAD) is a special ubiquitin proteasome system that is involved in degrading misfolded or incompletely folded proteins in the ER. Here, we report that SMALL GRAIN 3 (SMG3) and DECREASED GRAIN SIZE 1 (DGS1), an ERAD-related E2-E3 enzyme pair, regulate grain size and weight through the brassinosteroid (BR) signaling pathway in rice (Oryza sativa).
