Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are both the chronic inflammatory disease. To investigate the influence of secondary atherosclerosis on arthritis mice, we treated the ApoE mice with K/BxN serum and high fat diet (HFD), and subsequently assessed the phenotypes as well as immune profiles of K/BxN serum and HFD induced ApoE mice. We found that HFD treatment aggravated the hyperlipidemia, atherosclerotic lesions, ankle swelling and arthropathy of mice.

Background: Early-maturity cotton varieties have the potential to be cultivated in a wider geographical area, extending as far north as 46 °N in China, and confer to address the issue of competition for land between grain and cotton by reducing their whole growth period (WGP). Therefore, it is of great importance to develop cotton varieties with comprehensive early maturity and high yield following investigating the regulatory mechanism underlying early maturity and identifying early maturity-related genes.

Results: In this study, 'SCRC19' and 'SCRC21', two excellent cultivars with significantly different WGP, along with their recombinant inbred lines (RILs) consisting of 150 individuals were re-sequenced, yielding 4,092,677 high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 794 bin markers across 26 chromosomes.

Purpose: To investigate the diagnostic efficacy of Ga-pentixafor positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in primary aldosteronism (PA) subtyping and lateralization of aldosterone secretion in PA patients.

Procedures: 37 patients who were diagnosed with PA, were prospectively enrolled in the study, and underwent adrenal vein sampling (AVS) after Ga-pentixafor PET/CT was conducted. Lateralization index (LI), defined as aldosterone/cortisol ratio in the dominant side to the contralateral adrenal vein when bilateral adrenal vein catheterization succeeded, and the aldosterone/cortisol ratio in the left adrenal vein to IVC (LAV/IVC) when the catheterization of right adrenal vein failed, were applied to determine lateralization side.

Article Synopsis
  • A phase 3 trial (CHOICE-01) showed that combining toripalimab with chemotherapy significantly improves progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • The final analysis revealed a median overall survival (OS) of 23.8 months for the toripalimab group compared to 17.0 months for the control group, particularly benefiting non-squamous patients.
  • The study also emphasized the role of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and tissue-based sequencing in identifying biomarkers that predict treatment efficacy, suggesting continuous ctDNA monitoring could enhance personalized treatment strategies.

In ambient mass spectrometry, the performance in direct in situ analysis applications has been hindered by the lack of efficient ion-transferring technique between the atmosphere pressure ionization source and the mass analyzer. Building upon the hybrid concept of a stack ring ion guide and multipole ion guide, this study proposes the concept of a reconfigurable twisted dipole ion guide (TDIG) that enables flexible ion transfer between atmosphere and vacuum. Initially, theoretical and numerical studies were conducted to understand the basic ion confining principle of the twisted dipole ion guide, revealing its unique merits in long-distance flexible ion transmission.

CD8+ T-cell abundance is insufficient to assess antitumor immunity and shows poor performance in predicting breast cancer prognosis and immunotherapy response, presumably owing to the complexity of CD8+ T-cell functionalities. While single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) can dissect the multifaceted functions of CD8+ T cells for better immune assessment, its clinical application is limited. Herein, we developed bulk RNA-seq-based FuncDimen models from integrative analysis of scRNA-seq and matched bulk RNA-seq data, to evaluate CD8+ T-cell functionalities across 5 dimensions: tumor reactivity, cytotoxicity, IFN-γ secretion, proliferation, and apoptosis.

Purpose: The difference in prognosis between invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) and invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is still controversial in the academic community. Resolving this controversy can help to more accurately determine patients' prognosis, provide further personalized treatment, alleviate unnecessary psychological burden for some patients, and provide direction for further fundamental research.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the SEER Research Plus Data 8 Registries, Nov 2021 sub (1978-2019), including female breast cancer patients diagnosed with ILC or IDC between 2010 and 2015.

Background: Identifying differentially methylated regions (DMRs) is a basic task in DNA methylation analysis. However, due to the different strategies adopted, different DMR sets will be predicted on the same dataset, which poses a challenge in selecting a reliable and comprehensive DMR set for downstream analysis.

Results: Here, we develop DMRIntTk, a toolkit for integrating DMR sets predicted by different methods on a same dataset.

In order to develop new antifungal molecules and explore further applications of natural products, 25 novel amide-urea compounds were synthesized from anethole in this work by a few simple reactions, and structural confirmation was conducted using H-nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR), C-NMR, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Preliminary bioactivity tests were performed against eight plant pathogens. The results demonstrated that all compounds exhibited antifungal activity against the tested fungi, and 5p exhibited the most potent antifungal activity.

With the increasing global focus on sustainable materials, paper is favored for its biodegradability and low cost. Their integration with triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) establishes broad prospects for self-powered, paper-based triboelectric materials. However, these materials inherently lack efficient charge storage structures, leading to rapid charge dissipation.

Upconverted circularly polarized luminescence (UC-CPL) active organic and organic-inorganic composite materials have garnered increasing attention due to their vast potential applications in areas such as 3D displays, encryptions, spintronics and optoelectronic devices. However, effective methods for fabricating chiral inorganic materials exhibiting UC-CPL remain a challenge. Herein, we propose an approach for the synthesis of UC-CPL active chiral mesostructured CeO2 powders (CMCs) via a hydrothermal growth method, using L/D-aspartic acid as symmetry-breaking and structure-directing agents.

Quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) systems are inherently unfavorable for superconductivity due to electronic instabilities and significant quantum fluctuations. This has led to a half-century-long pursuit of strong and robust Q1D superconductors. Herein, we propose an effective multiorbital chain approach that utilizes the interorbital self-doping to not only suppress the instability but also to position the Fermi level near the band edges.

There is a major public health threat posed by antibiotic resistance around the world. Tigecycline overcomes the resistance mechanisms of traditional tetracyclines and is often seen as the final resort in combating infections caused by bacteria resistant to multiple drugs. However, the introduction of new mobile tet(X) tetracycline destructases is leading to a notable rise in tigecycline resistance.

Agonists of the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway are increasingly being recognized as a promising new approach in the treatment of cancer. Although progress in clinical trials for STING agonists in antitumor applications has been slow, there is still an urgent need for developing new potent STING agonists with versatile potential applications. Herein, we developed and identified a non-nucleotide STING agonist called DW18343.
