The structure of self-reinforced composites (SRCs) based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was studied by means of Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS), X-ray tomography, Raman spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and in situ tensile testing in combination with advanced processing tools to determine the correlation between the processing conditions, on one hand, and the molecular structure and mechanical properties, on the other. SRCs were fabricated by hot compaction of UHMWPE fibers at different pressure and temperature combinations without addition of polymer matrix or softener. It was found by WAXS that higher compaction temperatures led to more extensive melting of fibers with the corresponding reduction of the Herman's factor reflecting the degree of molecular orientation, while the increase of hot compaction pressure suppressed the melting of fibers within SRCs at a given temperature.

Mutations in nephrin lead to proteinuria and congenital nephrotic syndrome. Nephrin undergoes posttranslational modifications in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) prior to export to the plasma membrane.

A total of 200,000-750,000 tons of solid garbage (91%) and industrial waste products (9%) annually come to the ground. A total of 5,500,000 tons of garbage and waste products have been accumulated since it was put into operation.

Altogether 1,500 healthy residents of seven cities situated in the Asian part of the USSR were examined. In Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Norilsk, Magadan, Yakutsk and Ussuriisk, the people were examined for the blood levels of T and B lymphocytes, the ratio of regulatory subclasses of T lymphocytes, the concentration of IgG, IgM and IgA, and for the content of immune complexes. Analysis was made of the general and regional regularities in changes seen in the immune system depending on climatic and geographic factors.

The authors believe that the heteromorphous growth of cells is inherent in the normal cycle of the development of bacteria in the population and that this process is reversible. It has certain regularities, common for different bacteria, in the variability of morphological manifestations and can be regarded as one of the stages of the natural L-transformation of bacteria.

The morphology of colonies of some pathogenic Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria has been studied by scanning and transmitted electron microscopy. The presence of covers on the surface of cells in colonies has been revealed. The examination of colony fragments in ultrathin section has revealed that cells exist in associations and the elements of cell covers are differentiated in the form of fibrillar structures in the intracellular space.

The authors have proved the necessity of long-term tactivin administration in acute myeloid leukemia (no less than 2-3 years). that permits not only reducing the incidence of intercurrent diseases, but also increasing the duration of the remission period.

Diagnostic and prognostic significance of different marker expression has been evaluated in groups of patients with ALL and AML. Frequency distribution of T1, T2, T3, pre-B, B, common, Ia and null subvariants identified according to immunoclassification of Baryshinkov et al.

We have examined blood, bone-marrow and lymph-node samples from 474 patients, adults and children, with different hemopoietic malignancies, using a panel of MAbs including 2 anti-erythroid MAbs directed to glycophorin-A and an antigen of erythroblasts, Ag-Eb. MAb HAE9 directed against a human epitope of Ag-Eb has earlier been shown to be highly specific for immature erythroid cells.

During the recovery period these parameters returned to the norm. The counter-measures used (drugs combined with exercise) exerted a beneficial effect only in relation to CPK, gamma-glutamyl transferase and aspartate aminotransferase.

Biochemical analysis of blood of rats sacrificed 4 to 8 hours after Cosmos-1667 flight revealed a significant increase of corticosterone, decrease of 11-dehydroxycortisol, testosterone, total and bound thyroxine, and increase of glucose, phosphate, creatinine, alanine aminotransferase and total antioxidative activity. Changes in hormonal concentrations, glucose content and stimulation of antioxidant defense system were associated with a moderate gravitational stress. Increases in the creatinine and inorganic phosphate concentrations can be viewed as specific effects of microgravity related to musculo-skeletal or fluid-electrolyte changes.

Seven-day exposure to clinostatic and antiorthostatic hypokinesia led to a significant decrease of Krebs cycle enxymes (malate dehydrogenase--MDH and isocitrate dehydrogenase) and creatine phosphokinase with no significant changes in lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and MDH and LDH isoenzymes. This hypofermentemia returned to normal during 7-day readaptation. It was not associated with hemodynamic changes or emotional stress.
