A search for new physics is performed using events with two isolated same-sign leptons, two or more jets, and missing transverse momentum. The results are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13[Formula: see text] recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 [Formula: see text].

Search for heavy resonances decaying to two Higgs bosons in final states containing four b quarks.

A search is presented for narrow heavy resonances X decaying into pairs of Higgs bosons ([Formula: see text]) in proton-proton collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at [Formula: see text]. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7[Formula: see text].

CD56-positive lymphocyte infiltration in relation to human papillomavirus association and prognostic significance in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-related squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx (OSCC) are clinical and biological distinct from their HPV-unrelated counterparts. Patients with HPV-related OSCC display improved prognosis and therefore we investigated possible immune cell infiltrations associated with this tumor phenotype. We retrospectively analyzed a randomly selected cohort of 140 OSCC for presence of immune cells and HPV by immunohistochemistry and PCR followed by bead-based hybridization (Luminex technology).

Background: Prescription drug abuse is a growing epidemic in the United States, and opioids are among the most commonly abused and misused controlled substances. Managed care organizations can use pharmacy lock-in programs to limit patients' access to opioids by requiring that they receive all scripts from 1 prescriber, potentially reducing inappropriate use.

Objective: To evaluate opioid use patterns among patients in a Medicaid managed care lock-in program limiting opioid coverage to prescriptions written by assigned prescribers.

[Epithelial neuroendocrine tumors of the upper respiratory tract: New entities, new perspectives].

Epithelial neuroendocrine tumors of the upper respiratory tract are rare and are classified as typical and atypical carcinoid versus small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. Furthermore, a giant cell variant of neuroendocrine carcinoma is suggested corresponding to the bronchopulmonary system as well as a recently described subtype of oropharyngeal small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma associated with human papillomavirus. Many arguments relying on clinical as well as on molecular findings indicate that the distinction between carcinoid and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma does not only reflect different degrees of differentiation of otherwise related tumors but indicates the existence of substantially different types of neoplasms.

A recurrent activating PLCG1 mutation in cardiac angiosarcomas increases apoptosis resistance and invasiveness of endothelial cells.

Primary cardiac angiosarcomas are rare tumors with unfavorable prognosis. Pathogenic driver mutations are largely unknown. We therefore analyzed a collection of cases for genomic aberrations using SNP arrays and targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) of oncogenes and tumor-suppressor genes.

An erosion sensor based on a quartz crystal microbalance for quantitative determination of the cleaning efficiency in an ultrasonic vessel.

The efficiency of ultrasonic cleaning vessels cannot be measured directly in an easy way. In the presented work, a sensor is developed which quantitatively measures the ablation of a test layer. The sensor element is a quartz crystal which is coated with a sacrificial layer.

Small Cell Ovarian Carcinomas - Characterisation of Two Rare Tumor Entities.

Small cell ovarian carcinomas (SCOC) are differentiated into two types: hypercalcaemic (SCOCHT) and pulmonary (SCOCPT). Unfortunately, little is known about pulmonary-type small cell ovarian carcinoma. We carried out a systematic analysis of all available reports in the literature on individual cases of SCOCHT and SCOCPT.

Photobiological effect of low-level laser irradiation in bovine embryo production system.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of low-level laser irradiation (LLLI) on bovine oocyte and granulosa cells metabolism during in vitro maturation (IVM) and further embryo development. Cumulus-oocytes complexes (COCs) were subjected (experimental group) or not (control group) to irradiation with LLLI in a 633-nm wavelength and 1  J/cm2 fluency. The COCs were evaluated after 30 min, 8, 16, and 24 h of IVM.

Contrast-agent enhancement in ex vivo flat-panel computed tomography of locally advanced laryngeal cancer.

Conclusion: Visualization of cartilage invasion in ex vivo laryngectomy specimens was improved by flat-panel volumetric computed tomography (fpvCT) after diffusion of contrast agents. A prospective study to assess the specificity and sensitivity of this new method is warranted.

Objectives: Cartilage invasion is a criterion for staging laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

[A 75-year-old female patient with pleural effusion and gastric metastases of a poorly differentiated carcinoma].

A 75-year-old woman was found to have left-sided pleural effusion and endoscopy revealed the rare entity of adenoid cystic carcinoma metastases in the gastric mucosa. Approximately 20% of patients with this carcinoma suffer from distant metastases. For the initial staging detection of adenoid cystic carcinoma metastasis with positron emission tomography (PET) or PET computed tomography (CT) is recommended.

[Significance of frozen section diagnosis for the management of laryngeal tumors].

The frozen section procedure for immediate intraoperative pathological diagnosis represents a pivotal method in tumor diagnosis. In laryngeal tumors the most frequent indication for the use of this method is the documentation of the residual tumor status, while intraoperative consultation with the purpose of primary tumor diagnosis is less common. The specimen management employed in each case should be chosen depending on the clinical question: while the collection of a maximum amount of tissue is advisable for the determination of the residual tumor status, sparing a portion of the remaining tissue for possible future examinations is advisable in the case of primary tumor diagnosis.

[Dupuytren's disease in children - case report and literature review].

Dupuytren's disease in childhood and adolescence is extremely rare. As in adults most patients are male. We report on a girl at the age of 7 years with a cord in the palm.

[Congenital vascular malformations (Hauert disease)].

Patients with congenital vascular malformations often suffer from arthralgia, especially of the lower limbs. This orthopaedic disease pattern is defined as destructive, angiodysplatic arthritis or Hauert disease and leads to very early destruction of the joints. By presenting diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms, Hauert disease is emphasized as a possible differential diagnosis in order to minimize the risk of an incorrect diagnosis which might lead to under-, over-, or even incorrect treatment.

Management of adult primary vulvar Langerhans cell histiocytosis: review of the literature and a case history.

Primary vulvar Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is extremely rare and there are no standard treatment options. This review of the published literature with a case report aimed to clarify the optimal treatment for patients with this condition. Medline and PubMed were searched and all cases of primary vulvar LCH reported as single case reports or small case series were reviewed.

Potentially malignant lesions of the upper aerodigestive tract.

Mucosal lesions of the upper aerodigestive tract usually concern the squamous epithelium of the surface. Many precancerous alterations now designated as potentially malignant are caused by DNA damage resulting from long term exposure to tobacco and alcohol consumption. The distinction from conditions with a similar phenotype but caused by different reasons such as viral infection may be difficult.

Thermal properties and changes of acoustic parameters in an egg white phantom during heating and coagulation by high intensity focused ultrasound.

A polyacrylamide phantom containing egg white has been proposed previously as an adequate tissue-mimicking material for high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) application. In this work, we report on measurements of egg white phantom thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity. We measured changes in acoustical properties which occurred during the heating and the coagulation process.

Modeling of interaction between therapeutic ultrasound propagation and cavitation bubbles.

In medical applications of high intense focused ultrasound the mechanism of interaction between ultrasound waves and cavitation bubbles is responsible for several therapeutic effects as well as for undesired side effects. Based on a two-phase continuum approach for bubbly liquids, in this paper a numerical model is presented to simulate these interactions. The numerical results demonstrate the influence of the cavitation bubble cloud on ultrasound propagation.
