The synthesis of polymeric thermoset materials with spatially controlled physical properties using readily available resins is a grand challenge. To address this challenge, we developed a photoinitiated polymerization method that enables the spatial switching of radical and cationic polymerizations by controlling the dosage of monochromatic light. This method, which we call Switching Polymerizations by Light Titration (SPLiT), leverages the use of substoichiometric amounts of a photobuffer in combination with traditional photoacid generators.

This reaction proceeds through two separate and distinct catalytic cycles with both decarboxylative Pd-π-allyl and Pd(0)-promoted aza-Claisen rearrangements occurring. A detailed mechanistic study supported by computations highlights these two separate mechanisms.

We hypothesized that long-term administration of oral glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists, which block the aggregation of platelets, might stabilize intravascular plaque and prevent additional ischemic cardiac events.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, double-blind trial in which 7232 patients were randomly assigned to receive 20 mg of oral xemilofiban or placebo 30 to 90 minutes before undergoing percutaneous coronary revascularization, with maintenance doses of 10 or 20 mg of xemilofiban or placebo administered three times daily for up to 182 days.
Background: Parenteral administration of platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GP IIb/IIIa) receptor blockers can reduce ischemic complications of coronary angioplasty. Orally active GP IIb/IIIa blockers may allow more sustained receptor antagonism with the potential for long-term secondary prevention. The pharmacodynamic efficacy, clinical safety, and outcomes after prolonged receptor blockade with an orally active GP IIb/IIIa antagonist are not known.

In eleven patients with AMI, DCA was applied. In three of these patients, DCA was used as a stand-alone procedure without use of thrombolytic agents.

Placebo and enalapril were added on a double-blind basis to conventional treatment in 14 patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), New York Heart Association class II-III. The patients were followed for 14 weeks and their performance was evaluated by a treadmill test, ejection fraction by nuclear scan, cardiothoracic ratio, and Yale Scale score. Metabolic studies were done to test any adverse effects of the drugs.
