Colloidal nanorod heterostructures consisting of multiple quantum dots within a nanorod (-DNRs, where is the number of quantum dots within a nanorod) are synthesized with alternating segments of CdSe "dot" and CdS "rod" via solution heteroepitaxy. The reaction temperature, time dependent ripening, and asymmetry of the wurtzite lattice and the resulting anisotropy of surface ligand steric hindrance are exploited to vary the morphology of the growing quantum dot segments. The alternating CdSe and CdS growth steps can be easily repeated to increment the dot number in unidirectional or bidirectional growth regimes.

Many educators struggle with anxious or reticent learners during simulation. This reticence often becomes apparent first during the simulation prebrief.

We present epidemiological data and diagnostic features of 27 recent, naturally occurring cowpox cases in zoo and wild animals across the UK, including the first reports of cowpox in two snow leopards (Panthera uncia), a Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), three Chilean pudus (Pudu puda), a Malayan tapir (Tapirus indicus) and a Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra), and the first reports of Orthopoxvirus infection in a lar gibbon (Hylobates lar), a Southern tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla) and an aardvark (Orycteropus afer). This study provides a detailed overview of cowpox infections in a wide range of non-domestic animal species, presents a range of methods for diagnosis and demonstrates the value of retrospective analysis of pathology surveillance in revealing epidemiological links.

However, the efficiency of the photovoltaic mode remains modest for useful power conversion and may be challenging to improve without sacrificing performance in electroluminescence. Through a facile on-film partial ligand exchange with benzenethiol integrated into the device fabrication step, we achieve an average of more than threefold increase in power conversion efficiency while maintaining the maximum external quantum efficiency and the maximum luminance in the LED mode.

However, the longer-term implications of the pandemic are still to be seen, for children, their families and communities. This article is concerned with what these ongoing changes may be, based on a qualitative multi-stage study that asks children about their experiences of well-being before the pandemic, during lockdowns and post-COVID-19 lockdowns.

However, its significance and etiopathogenesis are poorly understood. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of amyloidosis within this population and identify potential predictive factors for the presence of disease.

Here, we show that 5 wt % cobalt supported on ZSM-5 zeolite catalyzes the solvent-free hydrogenolysis of PE and PP into propane with weight-based selectivity in the gas phase over 80 wt % after 20 h at 523 K and 40 bar H. This catalyst significantly reduces the formation of undesired CH (≤5 wt %), a product which is favored when using bulk cobalt oxide or cobalt nanoparticles supported on other carriers (selectivity ≤95 wt %).

The key to designing and synthesizing such complex materials lies in understanding the fundamental thermodynamic and kinetic factors that govern nanocrystal growth. In this review, nanorod heterostructures, the simplest of anisotropic nanocrystal heterostructures, are discussed with respect to their growth mechanisms.

The patient subsequently developed phantom tongue pain in acute rehabilitation. Post total glossectomy phantom pain is rare, and as this is a singular appendage, current techniques that rely on the presence of an intact limb, such as mirror therapy could not be applied to our patient.

Birdcage coils are widely used in preclinical MRI as they perform well, allow for quadrature drive, and can provide a homogeneous transmit field. Unlike in larger bore scanners, an RF shield is essential to avoid strong cross-talk with gradient coils that are in close proximity. However, gradient switching induces eddy currents that heat the shield and coil and impair the temporal signal-to-noise ratio (tSNR).

DUNE is a dual-site experiment for long-baseline neutrino oscillation studies, neutrino astrophysics and nucleon decay searches. ProtoDUNE Dual Phase (DP) is a 6 6 6 m liquid argon time-projection-chamber (LArTPC) that recorded cosmic-muon data at the CERN Neutrino Platform in 2019-2020 as a prototype of the DUNE Far Detector. Charged particles propagating through the LArTPC produce ionization and scintillation light.

One particularly powerful experimental observable that tests QED independently of traditional energy level measurements is the "tune-out" frequency, where the dynamic polarizability vanishes and the atom does not interact with applied laser light. In this work, we measure the tune-out frequency for the 2 state of helium between transitions to the 2 and 3 manifolds and compare it with new theoretical QED calculations.

Most fatal cases of EEHV-HD are associated with EEHV1A and EEHV1B in juveniles. This case report describes the clinical and pathological features of a fatal co-infection of type C and EEHV-HD, caused by EEHV4, in an adult female Asian elephant.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-two parents in New South Wales and Victoria (Australia) participated in this qualitative study. Seven interviews and three focus groups were completed.
Objectives: This paper examines the extent to which hotspots of shooting violence changed following the emergence of COVID-19.
Methods: This analysis uses Andresen's Spatial Point Pattern test on 1500 by 1500 foot grid cells, correcting for multiple comparisons, on a 10-year sample of geocoded shooting data from Buffalo New York.
Results: This work finds zero micro-grid cells are not statistically different from pre to post COVID stay at home orders and instead that the observed rise in shootings in the sample appears to be a consistent proportional increase across the city.
Rodent models of spinal cord injury (SCI) have been widely used in pre-clinical studies. Injuries may occur at different levels of the lumbar and thoracic cord, and the number of segments injured and their depths may vary along the spine. It is thereby challenging to build one universal RF coil that exhibits optimal performance for all spinal cord imaging applications, especially in an animal scanner with small in-bore space and limited hardware configurations.

In this work, we explore a solution to this problem in the form of an active shim insert that fits inside a needle and corrects the field disturbance (ΔB ) caused by the needle outside of it.
Methods: The ΔB induced by a 4 mm outside-diameter titanium needle at 3T is modeled and a two-coil orthogonal shim set is designed and fabricated to shim the ΔB .
