By the aid of the preserving solution that was mentioned by McCarey and Kaufman, the so-called MK-medium, it is possible to preserve human corneas up to six days. Now we inform about a method for gaining graft that permits the use of the rotor trephine with its already known advantages, such as low cutting pressure, low deformation of the tissue margines and the possibility of watching the cutting process.

Five years of experience with the microscope in retinal detachments are now reported both in ophthalmoscopy - under the microscope with the help of Goldmann's three-mirror contact glass - and for episcleral preparation. Since this time, the microscope has been used exclusively for operations.

Nevertheless it was not until almost 40 years later that the slit lamp could be able to be used for the examination of the fundus as a result of the development of the Goldmann 3-mirror contact glass.

Based especially on the studies of v. Frey, the anatomical, physiological and methodical fundamentals of aesthesiometrie of the cornea are considered and an electromagnetic instrument for the quantitative reproductable aesthesiometrie of the cornea is introduced. With this instrument it is shown by using various sizes of tactile probes, that the threshold value of the corneal sensitivity does not primarily depend on the size of the tactile probe, but mainly on the applied pressure.

The reaction of 4-hydroxycyclophosphamide (4-hydroxy-CP) with sulfhydryl (SH) compounds was studied, and although the cytotoxic activity was lost a significant stabilization of the alkylating capacity was observed at the same time. We were able to show that the reaction of 4-hydroxy-CP with thiols lead to an equilibrium between the reaction product and the starting substrates. On the basis of this equilibrium the increased stabilization of the alkylating capacity of the 4-hydroxy-CP derivatives by raising the SH concentration can be explained.

Sustained drug release systems could be especially useful in glaucoma treatment. Continuous delivery could be advantageous for maintaining an efficient tissue drug level. The aim of our investigations therefore was not only to control intraocular tension after having applied ocusert, but also to study aqueous humour dynamics by means of tonography.

The demands on the precision of the operative incision are in lamellar keratoplasty much higher as in the total thickness graft. Besides the accurate limitation of the size of the graft, a lamellar dissection must be performed, by which the quality of the dissection must be as high as possible, in order to give an acceptable optical result. The depth of cut must be constant, and, above all, the surface of the cut must be absolutely smooth.

There is no doubt that besides the anatomical changes in vitreous and retinal structures mechanical factors are involved in producing retinal detachment. Especially vertical accelerations can produce fast movements of the vitreous, which also can induce the retina. To investigate the effect of various external movements upon the eye a number of experiments were made: 31 variations of movements with and without different vehicles at different speeds have been investigated.
