Atypical t(15;17)(q13;q12) in a patient with all-trans retinoic acid refractory secondary acute promyelocytic leukemia: a case report and review of the literature.

A 69-year-old woman developed microgranular acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL-M3) 10 months after receiving adjuvant cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and paclitaxel for breast cancer. Replicate bone marrow aspirate karyotypes contained a translocation between the long arms of chromosomes 15 and 17, but not at breakpoints typical for APL. Fluorescence in situ hybridization paints and RARalpha/PML cosmid probes verified that the breakpoints on chromosomes 15 and 17 were proximal to both the PML and RARalpha genes; t(15;17)(q13;12).

The medical literature pertaining to the use of endosonography and fine needle aspiration biopsy for pancreatic lesions and abdominal lymphoma is reviewed.

Ethylene glycol poisoning: toxicokinetic and analytical factors affecting laboratory diagnosis.

Ethylene glycol poisoning is an important toxicological problem in medical practice because early diagnosis and treatment can prevent considerable morbidity and mortality. When ingested in the form of antifreeze or other automotive products, ethylene glycol results in central nervous system depression, cardiopulmonary compromise, and renal insufficiency. Metabolism of ethylene glycol to organic acids is required for metabolic derangement and organ damage.

Comparative steady state bioavailability of conventional and controlled-release formulations of albuterol.

A new controlled-release (CR) dosage formulation of albuterol has been developed which is suitable for twice-a-day dosing. The present study was conducted in twelve healthy adult male volunteers to compare the steady state plasma levels obtained following repeated administration of a 4 mg CR tablet (q12h) compared to a 2 mg conventional table (q6h) for 5 consecutive days. The mean steady state plasma level-time curves for both the CR and conventional tablet treatments were comparable over time and reproducible.
