Using a model where soft nanocolloids such as spherical polymer brushes and star polymers are viewed as compressible liquid drops, we theoretically explore contact interactions between such particles. By numerically minimizing the phenomenological free energy consisting of bulk and surface terms, we find that at small deformations the drop-drop interaction is pairwise additive and described by a power law. We also propose a theory to describe the small-deformation regime, and the agreement is very good at all drop compressibilities.

Background And Objective: Ablative fractional laser treatment uses thousands of very small laser beam wounds to damage a fraction of the skin, which stimulates tissue remodeling. Each open micro-wound heals without scarring, but the amount of skin tightening achieved is limited. In a paper published at the J Invest Dermatol in 1998 Nik Kollias and coworkers described distinct changes in skin native fluorescence associated with skin aging and photoaging, using in vivo fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. The assignment of the 295 nm band to tryptophan fluorescence had a profound significance influencing many later studies from multiple groups. The reproducible changes in skin native fluorescence suggested that aging causes predictable alterations in both the epidermis and the dermis, whereas chronic UV exposure induces the appearance of new fluorophores.

We present the case of a 30-year-old male patient with an almost complete destruction of the calvarial bone through an anaplastic meningioma diagnosed in line with dizziness. Neuroimaging revealed an extensive growing, contrast enhancing lesion expanding at the supra- and infratentorial convexity, infiltrating and destroying large parts of the skull, and infiltrating the skin. Due to progressive ataxia and dysarthria with proven tumor growth in the posterior fossa in the continuing course, parts of the tumor were resected.
