Improvement in Patient Performance of Skin Self-examinations After Intervention With Interactive Education and Telecommunication Reminders: A Randomized Controlled Study.

OBJECTIVE To determine if interactive computerized patient education, skin self-examination (SSE) tutorials, and telecommunication reminders could be combined to increase patient performance of SSEs, increase confidence in ability to identify melanoma, and influence individual melanoma risk perception. DESIGN A total of 132 adult participants from our dermatology clinics were enrolled in an interventional study and randomized to a control group or an intervention group. Survey data were collected from all participants on the day of enrollment and 3 months after enrollment.

Cutaneous angiosarcoma masquerading as herpes zoster.

Angiosarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of vascular or lymphatic endothelial origin that has a poor prognosis. The insidious symptoms, aggressive nature, and rare occurrence of this neoplasm leave a paucity of optimal treatment information. We describe the atypical presentation of an 88-year-old man who was diagnosed and treated for herpes zoster (HZ) in a local emergency department; consultation and biopsy obtained through our dermatology clinic later revealed a diagnosis of cutaneous angiosarcoma (CA).

Leukemia cutis amidst a psoriatic flare: a case report.

Leukemia Cutis (LC) has many clinical morphologies that present a diagnostic challenge. This case report of a 58-year-old man experiencing a flare of psoriasis elucidates the need for clinical suspicion when a history of leukemia is present. A skin biopsy revealed histopathologic findings of psoriasis and an infiltrate of mononuclear cells consistent with LC.
