Addition of manganese(IV) oxides (MnO ) and zeolite can affect the mobility of As and V in soils due to geochemical changes that have not been studied well in calcareous, flooded soils. This study evaluated the mobility of As and V in flooded soils surface-amended with MnO or zeolite. A simulated summer flooding study was conducted for 8 weeks using intact soil columns from four calcareous soils.

Phosphorus (P) losses from flooded soils and subsequent transport to waterways contribute to eutrophication of surface waters. This study evaluated the effectiveness of MnO and a zeolite Y amendment in reducing P release from flooded soils and explored the underlying mechanisms controlling P release. Unamended and amended (MnO or zeolite, surface-amended at 5 Mg ha) soil monoliths from four clayey-alkaline soils were flooded at 22 ± 2 °C for 56 days.

The nanoparticles of Fe(3)O(4) as well as the binary nanoparticles of ionic liquid and Fe(3)O(4) (IL-Fe(3)O(4)) were synthesized for removal of reactive red 120 (RR-120) and 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol (PAR) as model azo dyes from aqueous solutions. The mean size and the surface morphology of the nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, DLS, XRD, FTIR and TGA techniques. Adsorption of RR-120 and PAR was studied in a batch reactor at different experimental conditions such as nanoparticle dosage, dye concentration, pH of the solution, ionic strength, and contact time.

Rapid surface oxidation of a metal was carried out using a low voltage (9-18 V dc) power supply to examine the feasibility of low power electrocorrosion as an alternative to current metal sampling techniques such as acid digestion. Potential was applied between a metal alloy and a cellulose electrode that was made conductive using an aqueous solution (NH4NO3, KCl). Metal ions diffuse into the cellulose as rapid surface oxidation of the metal occurs.
