Background: Current donor risk assessments to identify risk of infectious transmission through transplantation have been criticized as unnecessarily discriminatory for sexual and gender minorities. Little is known about how increased infectious risk donor (IIRD) patients transition through the deceased donation system. We sought to evaluate how IIRD status and other equity-relevant identities impacted the likelihood of a caregiver of a deceased donor being approached for organ donation and the likelihood of caregiver consent.

Co-existing chronic hepatitis B virus (CHB) infection and metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) can exert complex effects on hepatic metabolism, requiring mechanistic study. CHB participants were assessed for MASLD and the impact of hepatic steatosis/metabolic syndrome (MetS) on novel viral and immunological markers. In this prospective, cohort study, untreated CHB subjects were assessed for liver disease by non-invasive tests (i.

Patients with high-risk multiple-myeloma (HRMM) and ultra-high-risk multiple-myeloma (UHRMM) show rapid disease progression and shorter survival compared to those with standard-risk multiple-myeloma (SRMM). Lenalidomide maintenance after autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) has shown inferior outcomes in this subgroup compared to SRMM, and there is an unmet need for improved post-ASCT therapy. This retrospective study, from September 2016 to March 2023, assesses elotuzumab combined with lenalidomide or pomalidomide and dexamethasone (ERd or EPd) as consolidation therapy post-ASCT for HRMM and UHRMM patients.

Background: Currently, no specific treatment is available for acute onset pancreatitis (AP), and management relies on symptomatic and supportive standard of care (SOC). Fuzapladib is a novel leukocyte function-associated antigen type-1 (LFA-1) activation inhibitor, blocking activation and subsequent adhesion and migration of neutrophils, potentially decreasing the risk of pancreatitis progression and systemic inflammation.

Objective: Evaluate the safety and clinical response of dogs with AP after 3 days of administration of fuzapladib.

Current policies in organ and tissue donation and transplantation (OTDT) systems in Canada and the United States unnecessarily restrict access to donation for sexual and gender minorities (SGMs) and pose safety risks to transplant recipients. We compare SGM-relevant policies between the Canadian and United States systems. Policy domains include the risk assessment of living and deceased organ and tissue donors, physical examination considerations, viral testing recommendations, and informed consent and communication.

Previous studies have shown that socioeconomic factors play an important role in multiple myeloma (MM) health outcomes. We postulated that the type of treatment facilities and their volume of cases also affect overall survival, utilization of various therapies including palliative care services in newly diagnosed MM. Using the National Cancer Database (NCDB), we analyzed 174,551 newly diagnosed MM participants from across the country.

Long interspersed element 1 (LINE-1) open reading frame 1 protein (ORF1p) expression is a common feature of many cancer types, including high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). Here, we report that ORF1p is not only expressed but also released by ovarian cancer and primary tumor cells. Immuno-multiple reaction monitoring-mass spectrometry assays showed that released ORF1p is confidently detectable in conditioned media, ascites, and patients' plasma, implicating ORF1p as a potential biomarker.
