Background: Sequential transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and portal vein embolization (PVE) are associated with long time interval that can allow tumor growth and nullify treatments' benefits.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of simultaneous TACE and PVE for patients with large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prior to elective major hepatectomy.

Methods: Fifty-one patients with large HCC who underwent PVE combined with or without TACE prior to hepatectomy were included in this study, with 13 patients in the simultaneous TACE + PVE group, 17 patients in the sequential TACE + PVE group, and 21 patients in the PVE-only group.

Endochondral bone formation is an important route for bone repair. Although emerging evidence has revealed the functions of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in bone and cartilage development, the effect of lncRNAs in endochondral bone repair is still largely unknown. Here, we identified a lncRNA, named Hypertrophic Chondrocyte Angiogenesis-related lncRNA (HCAR), and proved it to promote the endochondral bone repair by upregulating the expression of matrix metallopeptidase 13 (Mmp13) and vascular endothelial growth factor α (Vegfa) in hypertrophic chondrocytes.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is considered to be spread primarily by people who have tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Here, we discuss a patient with severe COVID-19 and a history of type 2 diabetes who had a recurrence of positive SARS-CoV-2 ribonucleic acid (RNA) after recovering. The patient was initially discharged after two consecutive negative SARS-CoV-2 RNA tests and partially absorbed bilateral lesions on chest computed tomography (CT).

Podocyte injury and loss contribute to proteinuria, glomerulosclerosis and eventually kidney failure. Recent studies have demonstrated that the loss of Kruppel-like factor 15 (KLF15) in podocytes increases the susceptibility to injury; however, the mechanism underlying the protective effects on podocyte injury remains incompletely understood. Herein, we showed that KLF15 ameliorates podocyte injury through suppressing NFAT signaling and the salutary effects of the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone in podocyte were partially mediated by the KLF15-NFATc1 axis.

This study aims to elucidate the biomechanical effects of combined loading of maxillary anterior and posterior implants using the sliding method on en-masse retraction of the anterior teeth and to quantify the loading ratio (LR) of anterior and posterior implants to achieve controlled retraction of the maxillary anterior teeth. A three-dimensional finite element model of the maxilla-upper dentition appliance was constructed. In this article, a cyber-physical cooperative control strategy is proposed for islanded microgrid (MG), which divides the MG into cyber and physical layers. And the main designs in these two layers are two event-triggered mechanisms, where one mechanism is used to improve the voltage and frequency stability of MG considering the packet loss problem, the other is used to reduce the communication burden in the control process. More specifically, the control process of the first mechanism can be understood as we use these event-triggered mechanisms to complete the secondary control in the physical layer based on the information in the cyber layer.
