Background And Objectives: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neurohistopathology are important correlates for evaluation of disease progression in multiple sclerosis (MS). Here we used experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) as an animal model of MS to determine the correlation between clinical EAE severity, MRI and histopathological parameters.
Methods: N = 11 female C57BL/6J mice were immunized with human myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein 1-125, while N = 9 remained non-immunized.
Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a ground-breaking tool in neuroscience, revolutionizing our understanding of neuroplasticity and its implications for neurological rehabilitation. By immersing individuals in simulated environments, VR induces profound neurobiological transformations, affecting neuronal connectivity, sensory feedback mechanisms, motor learning processes, and cognitive functions. These changes highlight the dynamic interplay between molecular events, synaptic adaptations, and neural reorganization, emphasizing the potential of VR as a therapeutic intervention in various neurological disorders.

Study Design: Retrospective, serial cross-sectional analysis of periviable preterm infants born in the United States at 22 to 24 weeks' GA using the linked birth/infant death records from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Data were analyzed from 2011 to 2020.
Background: To describe the impact on maternal and perinatal outcomes of the Delta variant of COVID-19 compared to the pre-Delta period in pregnant women with COVID-19 infections in one large public, non-profit hospital system.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of identified COVID-19 diagnosed pregnant women with the outcome of pregnancy (livebirth or stillbirths). We assessed maternal and perinatal outcomes between the pre-delta and Delta variant time periods.
Routine chest X-ray (CXR) post intrathoracic drain removal in cardiac surgical patients is common practice to identify the presence of a pneumothorax following drain removal. Such pneumothoraces occur infrequently and rarely require intervention. We investigated the utility of routine CXR post drain removal and hypothesised that the practice is unnecessary and a possible area for significant cost saving.

The cause of nasal obstruction in most of the patients is either nasal septal deviation or turbinate hypertrophy owing to vasomotor or perennial allergic rhinitis. Most cases of hypertrophic turbinate are usually mild and respond to antihistamine therapy, local decongestions, or allergy desensitization; however, surgery is required in some cases. In our present study, three surgical methods were used for inferior turbinoplasty i.

It is a promising candidate gene implicated in the pathogenesis of cervical insufficiency (CI). This study aimed to identify genetic variations within the COL1A1 gene that contribute to the development of CI.

This condition, called treatment resistant epilepsy (TRE), is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, and substantially impacts the quality of life of both the individual and their family. Non-responsiveness to ASMs leads many people with TRE to seek alternative therapies, such as cannabinoid-based medication, particularly cannabidiol (CBD), with or without medical or professional advice.

Earlier studies have used peak daily temperature to derive the burden of fever. The association between hospital mortality and fever burden calculated as the area under the temperature-time curve for the entire duration of intensive care unit (ICU) stay has not been studied before.

A computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging of the brain demonstrated classic signs of cerebral oedema secondary to a metabolic crisis from the metabolic disorder. Her management posed multiple challenges to all teams involved due to lack of familiarity and experience in managing this clinical scenario in the adult intensive care setting.

Although the risk of severe illnesses difficult to predict, the sudden surge in RSV may strain the health care system. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine the utility of Google Trends search activity on RSV to predict changes in RSV-related hospitalizations in children in the United States in 2019.

However, systemic distribution, in particular upon reactivation of the virus in immunocompromised patients, may trigger an innate immune response and induce damage of organs. In these conditions, HSV-1 may infect vascular endothelial cells, but little is known about the regulation of HSV-1 replication and possible defense mechanisms in these cells.

Maxillofacial injuries in general occur quite commonly following trauma and these injuries if not properly managed can negatively influence both the psychosocial and functional activities of the patient. This is as a result of the centrality of the facial region as a key factor in human identity, aesthetics, and general well-being. Fractures involving the facial skeleton may be isolated or complex.

This study describes the clinical characteristics, management and outcomes of CAM cases, and factors associated with mortality.
Methods: Microbiologically confirmed CAM cases were enrolled from April 2021 to September 2021 from ten diverse geographical locations in India.
Maharashtra was severely affected during the noxious second wave of COVID-19, with the highest number of cases recorded across India. The emergence of new symptoms and dysregulation of multiple organs resulted in high disease severity during the second wave which led to increased difficulties in understanding the molecular mechanisms behind the disease pathology. Exploring the underlying factors can help to relieve the burden on the medical communities to some extent by prioritizing the patients and, at the same time, opening avenues for improved treatments.

The ProtekDuo (Livanova, Uk) is a dual-lumen cannula that allows for percutaneous right ventricular support and may be connected to a centrifugal blood pump such as the TandemHeart or LifeSparc (Livanova, UK). This systematic review aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ProtekDuo right ventricular support and evaluate potential clinical variables that can influence outcomes.

We aimed to determine if there is an association between NAS and CA in a nationally representative cohort of newborn hospitalization in the United States.
Study Design: This was a cross-sectional analysis of NAS-related hospitalizations within the 2016 Kids Inpatient Database.
Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a common type of brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain during the perinatal period. The incidence of HIE is approximately 2−3 cases per 1000 live births in high-income settings; while in low- and middle-income countries, the incidence is 3−10-fold higher. Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the current standard treatment for neonates affected by moderate−severe HIE.
