Despite the importance of blood group compatibility in solid organ transplantation, the role of ABO antigens is less critical in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, ABO-mismatch HSCT can present specific conditions and challenges for the recipient. One of the possible consequences of ABO-mismatch HSCT is pure red cell aplasia (PRCA).
