Effectiveness of golimumab in patients with ulcerative colitis: results of a real-life study in Switzerland.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors have improved treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC), but loss of response remains a frequent problem. The anti-TNF agent, golimumab, was approved in Switzerland for the treatment of UC in 2014. This study aims to summarize the experience of golimumab in a real-world setting in Switzerland.

Acute Herpes Simplex Viral Esophagitis Occurring in 5 Immunocompetent Individuals With Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

Herpes simplex esophagitis (HSE) is an acute, severe viral infection of the esophagus, rarely occurring in immunocompetent individuals. Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a rare immune-mediated esophageal disorder. We recently observed 5 severe HSE cases in diagnosed EoE patients.

Rapamycin, but not FK-506, increases endothelial tissue factor expression: implications for drug-eluting stent design.

Background: Drugs released from stents affect the biology of vascular cells. We examined the effect of rapamycin and FK-506 on tissue factor (TF) expression in human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) and vascular smooth muscle cells (HAVSMCs).

Methods And Results: Rapamycin enhanced thrombin- and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha-induced endothelial TF expression in a concentration-dependent manner.
