Observations of Pediatric Disease Prevalence from Pacific Partnership 2015.

Pacific Partnership is an ongoing yearly humanitarian assistance mission to Pacific Rim countries. Although many case reports and surgical successes have been documented, few data have been published specifically about the primary care mission. This article analyzes outpatient pediatric data collected during Pacific Partnership 2015.

An empowerment evaluation model for sexual assault programs: empirical evidence of effectiveness.

Using an empowerment evaluation approach, the Sexual Assault and Rape Prevention (SARP) Evaluation Project brought together university researchers, public health evaluators, state funders, and program staff to provide evaluation training and consultation to all state-funded rape prevention and victim services programs in Michigan. In this paper, the specific activities of the SARP project are described, and process and outcome data are presented that address the effectiveness of this empowerment evaluation approach. Based on subjective reports from program staff and objective data obtained from state funders, results suggest that this evaluation model was successful in helping 90% of the prevention programs and 75% of the victim services programs successfully develop and launch program evaluations.

[Idiopathic left ventricular aneurysm presenting with ventricular tachycardia. A case report].

Left ventricular aneurysm presenting with ventricular tachycardia was observed in a 48 year old man. Aetiological investigation was negative. The differences between aneurysm and diverticulum and the aetiologies of aneurysms are discussed.

[Correlations between the different criteria of late potentials and results of programmed ventricular stimulation after myocardial infarction].

Five to ten per cent of survivors of acute myocardial infarction die within two years. The majority of these deaths are sudden and are attributed to a lethal ventricular arrhythmia. This is usually ventricular tachycardia degenerating to ventricular fibrillation.

[Transient reduction of ventricular tachycardia with adenosine-5'-triphosphate. A possible action of ATP on purinergic receptors].

The authors report the case of a 46 year old man in whom a regular, wide complex tachycardia was terminated temporarily by the injection of adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP:Striadyne); endocavitary electrophysiological studies showed the tachycardia to be of ventricular origin. After aminophylline, an inhibitor of certain purinergic receptors, the tachycardia could be reproduced at will and was sustained whereas only short runs of tachycardia could be induced under basal conditions. The mode of action of the ATP on this type of tachycardia could be a direct effect of the molecule on the purinergic receptors specifically inhibited by aminophylline.

[Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic effects of digoxin in dilated cardiomyopathies. Influence of nicardipine].

Numerous studies have been devoted to the effect of slow calcium channel inhibitors on plasma digoxin concentrations. The principal drugs tested, verapamil and nifedipine, were found to increase significantly plasma digoxin levels mainly by reducing digoxin total clearance. Very few studies on the nicardipine-digoxin interaction have been reported.

[Isolated ostial stenosis: a peculiar anatomic form of coronary insufficiency in women].

We report 5 cases of isolated ostial stenosis of the left main coronary vessel. Isolated ostial stenosis occurs preferentially in young or middle aged women for whom coronary insufficiency is usually not a serious threat. Patients with this type of lesion have characteristically severe angina of relatively recent onset.
