Article Synopsis
  • The DANIsh VASculitis cohort study (DANIVAS) is a national study in Denmark focused on collecting clinical data and biobank samples from patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA).
  • The study aims to determine how new imaging techniques can help categorize GCA and PMR patients and assess their treatment needs, especially regarding large-vessel involvement and aneurysm risk.
  • Utilizing Denmark's established infrastructure for clinical studies and a national biobank, DANIVAS has the potential to gather extensive real-world data on various aspects of these diseases, aiding in the development of better management strategies.

Introduction: Following the approval of tocilizumab (TCZ) for giant cell arteritis (GCA), recent studies have shown a high relapse frequency after abrupt discontinuation of TCZ. However, a thorough exploration of TCZ tapering compared to abrupt discontinuation has never been undertaken. Likewise, adverse events have only been scarcely investigated in routine care.

Objectives: To explore current management practices for PMR by general practitioners (GPs) and rheumatologists including implications for clinical trial recruitment.

Methods: An English language questionnaire was constructed by a working group of rheumatologists and GPs from six countries. The questionnaire focused on: 1: Respondent characteristics; 2: Referral practices; 3: Treatment with glucocorticoids; 4: Diagnostics; 5: Comorbidities; and 6: Barriers to research.

Functional performance tests provide quantitative information on specialized sport movements and are important for documenting training and fatigue. The single leg, medial countermovement jump provides objective measures of frontal plane force, velocity and power, and is relevant for ice hockey players given the similar lateral movement to ice skating. This study measured normative single leg, medial countermovement jump parameters (i.

Article Synopsis
  • - Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a condition that causes muscle weakness and fatigue, and this study aimed to see how it affects chewing functions compared to healthy individuals.
  • - Twelve patients with MG reported more oral health issues and had a lower maximum bite force (18.8 kgf) compared to nine healthy controls (29.5 kgf) but had similar chewing patterns in terms of muscle fatigue during tests.
  • - The researchers concluded that while MG patients experienced more oral complaints and reduced bite force, their chewing function was not significantly different from that of healthy controls, suggesting a need for further research on the impact of MG on oral health.

Appropriate performance tests are critical for documenting training, fatigue and injury-related changes. Functional performance testing can provide quantitative information on specialized sport movements. The single-leg, medial countermovement jump is an objective measure of frontal plane force, velocity and power, and is particularly applicable for ice hockey players given that ice skating involves applying lateral forces.

Background: In myasthenia gravis (MG), first-line treatment for MG is acetylcholinesterase inhibitors which alleviates symptoms, but concomitantly may cause autonomic adverse effects.

Aims Of The Study: In this study, we evaluated if symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB) are more frequent among MG patients than healthy controls.

Methods: Eighty-three MG patients and 50 healthy sex- and age-matched controls were included and answered the questionnaire "International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladder Module" (ICIQ-OAB), including questions about polyuria, nocturia, urgency, and stress incontinence.

In Denmark, the annual incidence of paranasal malignancies is approximately 60, often presenting with symptoms from growth into neighbouring structures. This case report is of a primary neuroendocrine paranasal tumour with distant metastases in an 81-year-old woman. Following a tooth extraction, the patient developed left side proptosis.

Injuries in men's elite ice hockey have been studied over the past 40 years, however, there is a lack of consensus on definitions of both injury and athlete exposure. These inconsistencies compromise the reliability and comparability of the research. While many individual studies report injury rates in ice hockey, we are not aware of any literature reviews that have evaluated the definitions of injury and athlete exposure in men's elite ice hockey.

The article is devoted to the value of asymptomatic hyperuricemia in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The review summarizes results of a number of epidemiological reports that have increasingly linked elevated serum uric acid with an increased risk of incident CHF and adverse outcomes in CHF patients. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to influencing disturbances of uric acid metabolism are discussed.

Many recent reports suggest the relationship between hyperuricemia, risk and prognosis of arterial hypertension and coronary heart disease. The works on the clinical and prognostic significance in chronic heart failure are few even if this pathology deteriorates prognosis of some cardiovascular diseases. Hyperuricemia is considered to be a component of cardiovascular continuum, risk factor of chronic heart failure and marker of its unfavourable outcome.

Experimental study of morphological peculiarities of intestinal wall and common bile duct wall healing using microsurgical sutures under the condition of peritonitis and cholangitis, was performed in 112 dogs. It was shown that the microsurgical suturing of intestinal wall and common bile duct wall affected by the inflammatory process, created the favorable conditions for wound healing. During the recovery period, the thickness of all the layers of the intestinal wall decreased, the disturbances of the normal fibrous structure and the vascular reaction of the submucosa were reduced.

Aim: To analyse relationships between left ventricular myocardium mass (LVMM) and imbalance of uric acid metabolism in patients with arterial hypertension (AH).

Material And Methods: Body mass index, waist/hip circumference index, levels of uric acid in the blood and urine, urinary excretion of albumin, LVMM were estimated in 106 patients with mild and moderate AH (70 males and 36 females, mean age 51 +/- 8.5 years).
