Background: Affective bias toward negativity is associated with depression and may represent a promising treatment target. Aim: To quantify regional subcortical brain volume anomalies in youth with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), assess the relative sensitivity and specificity of abnormal volumes in FASD vs. a comparison group, and examine associations with cognitive function.

Objective/hypothesis: This triple-blinded randomized clinical trial assessed the efficacy of bifrontal (over the forehead) transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) concurrent with cognitive training to improve cognitive performance in a healthy sample.

Methods: Fifty-eight participants were randomly assigned to one of three stimulation conditions (2 mA left anode-right cathode, 2 mA right anode-left cathode, or sham), which was administered with cognitive training tasks 3x/week over 12 weeks with assessments at baseline, midpoint (6 weeks), and post-training (12 weeks).

Objective: To evaluate the use of a large magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) normative dataset to quantify structural brain anomalies that may improve diagnostic sensitivity for atypical brain volume in youth with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD).

Study Design: Participants included 48 children with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and 43 controls, ages 8-17 years, from the longitudinal Collaborative Initiative on FASD s. Recently published lifespan brain charts were used to quantify participants' (per)centile for brain volumes (cortical and subcortical gray matter and cortical white matter), providing an index of (dis)similarity to typically developing individuals of the same age and sex.

Background: Brain-based interventions are needed to address persistent relapse in alcohol use disorder (AUD). Neuroimaging evidence suggests higher frontal connectivity as well as higher within-network connectivity of theoretically defined addiction networks are associated with reduced relapse rates and extended abstinence during follow-up periods.

Hemispheric asymmetry represents a cardinal feature of cerebral organization, but the nature of structural and functional differences between the hemispheres is far from fully understood. Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging morphometry, we identified several volumetric differences between the two hemispheres of the human brain. Heteromodal inferoparietal and lateral prefrontal cortices are more extensive in the right than left hemisphere, as is visual cortex.
