Neuropsychological Symptoms and Functional Capacity in Older Adults with Chronic Pain.

The impact of chronic pain on neuropsychological functioning of older adults is under-studied. The present study examined the relationship between chronic pain, depression, anxiety, cognition, and functional capacity in community-dwelling older adults (ages 60-89) who completed an outpatient neuropsychological evaluation ( = 452). Psychometrically sound and validated measures were used to assess depression (Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS]), anxiety (Beck Anxiety Inventory [BAI]), cognitive functioning (the Mini Mental Status Exam [MMSE] and the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status [RBANS]), and functional capacity (Texas Functional Living Scale [TFLS] and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire [IADL]).

Medication Adherence Barriers: Development and Retrospective Pilot Test of an Evidence-Based Screening Instrument.

Background: Adherence to a prescribed medication regimen is often critical to successful comorbid disease management and decreased risk for adverse outcomes. The barriers that result in nonadherence are often multilayered and complex, making them difficult to address in an outpatient clinic setting.

Objectives: The primary objective of this project was to develop an evidence-based observational screening instrument and determine its potential to identify barriers to medication adherence.

Purpose: We sought to identify genomic alterations (GA) in salivary gland adenocarcinomas, not otherwise specified (NOS), salivary duct carcinomas (SDC), carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (ca ex PA), and salivary carcinoma, NOS.

Experimental Design: DNA was extracted from 149 tumors. Comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) was performed on hybridization-captured adaptor ligation-based libraries of 182 or 315 cancer-related genes plus introns from 14 or 28 genes frequently rearranged for cancer and evaluated for all classes of GAs.

An aging population and latent effects from exposure to carcinogens will likely augment the current trend of increased incidence of urinary bladder cancer. Intravesical antineoplastic therapy is a common treatment for urinary bladder cancer. Transurethral resection of bladder tumors often is followed immediately by the instillation of an antineoplastic agent in the operating room or postanesthesia care unit.
