Objectives: Using a random forest algorithm, we previously found that teicoplanin-associated gene A (tcaA) might play a role in resistance of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) to β-lactams, which we have investigated further here.
Methods: Representative MRSA strains of prevalent clones were selected to identify the role of tcaA in the MRSA response to β-lactams. tcaA genes were deleted by homologous recombination in the selected MRSA strains, and antibiotic susceptibility tests were applied to evaluate the effect of tcaA on the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of glycopeptides and β-lactams.
Background: Leptospirosis is a bacterial zoonosis with variable clinical manifestations. Pulmonary diffuse hemorrhagic leptospirosis often occurs rapidly and, when not promptly diagnosed and treated, it can be life-threatening. is an opportunistic fungus that is commonly seen in immunosuppressed patients.

We aimed to identify the in vivo microstructural characteristics of remote gray matter (GM) and thalamic pathways and elucidate their roles across cognitive domains. Patients with isolated ischemic thalamic stroke and healthy controls underwent neuropsychological assessment and magnetic resonance imaging.

The clinical information of patients admitted to a tertiary hospital between January 2010 and December 2022 was retrospectively reviewed from the clinical records. Patients with baseline liver diseases (hepatis B or C infection and fatty liver) or taking liver protective drugs were excluded.

Periodontitis is an oral microbiota-induced inflammatory disease, in which inflammation and oxidative stress play a critical role. Silibinin (SB), a Silybum marianum-derived compound, exhibits strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties. We adopted a rat ligature-induced periodontitis model and a lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) stimulated human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) model to evaluate the protective effects of SB.

However, the role of inflammatory mediator activation in the development of pulmonary embolism remains elusive. Here, we determined the reliability of the plasma levels of inflammatory markers tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and high mobility histone 1 (HMGB1) as diagnostic biomarkers of PE.

Numerous PE prevention clinical practice guidelines are available but not consistently implemented. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel risk assessment model to assess the risk of PE in postoperative patients.

However, while new methodologies and new platforms for the detection of VCA-IgA and EBNA1-IgA have become available, proper interassay simultaneous comparisons have not been carried out. The study was to compare the performance of the chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for VCA-IgA and EBNA1-IgA antibodies, and to evaluate the levels of EBV antibodies in healthy population from different areas of China.

We conducted a retrospective, multicenter study, and followed-up with all children from the families with SARS-CoV-2 infected members in Zhejiang Province, China. All infections were confirmed by testing the SARS-CoV-2 RNA with real-time reverse transcription PCR method, and epidemiological data between children and adults in the same families were compared.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy, safety, and prognostic factors of drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) in treating Chinese patients with liver cancer. A total of 367 liver cancer patients from 24 medical centers were consecutively enrolled in this multiple-center, prospective cohort study, including 275 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases, 37 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) cases, and 55 secondary liver cancer cases. All the patients received CalliSpheres DEB-TACE treatment.

The positive matrix factorization (PMF) model was used for the source identification of PAHs. The results of the source identification showed that the mining activity was the major source of PAHs in the area, and that the mining influenced the surrounding natural area.

Background: This study aimed to assess the treatment response, short-term overall survival (OS) and safety profiles of drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) in patients with secondary liver cancer.
Methods: Fifty-five patients with secondary liver cancer underwent DEB-TACE were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. Treatment response was assessed by modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST).
Objective: To analyze the clinical and laboratory features and determine the predictors of acute liver failure (ALF) among inpatients with anti-tuberculosis (TB) drug-induced liver injury (DILI).
Method: Patients diagnosed with anti-TB DILI from 2010 to 2016 at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University were retrospectively included in this study. Demographic and clinical data were collected by reviewing electronic medical records.
Purpose: To assess the efficacy and safety of drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) in liver cancer patients with different times of previous conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) treatments.
Methods: 367 liver cancer patients about to receive DEB-TACE treatment were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. All patients were divided into no previous cTACE group (NPC group), 1-2 times previous cTACE group (PC group) and triple or above previous cTACE group (TPC group) according to the times of previous cTACE treatments.
The objective of the present study was to conduct a multicentre, prospective evaluation of the diagnostic performance of the Biochip system for the detection of drug-resistant tuberculosis using smear-positive sputum specimens. This prospective study evaluated the diagnostic performance of this new platform for drug resistant and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) using 1491 smear-positive sputum specimens collected from multiple clinical settings. Using conventional culture-based culturing and drug-susceptibility testing as reference standards, the biochip system had a sensitivity of 86.
