Properties and corrosion resistance mechanism of a self-healing octadecyl amine loaded ethyl cellulose microcapsule coatings loaded with epoxy resin.

In order to provide long-term anti-corrosion properties of the coatings on the substrate, a microcapsule self-healing coatings system was designed in this paper. Microcapsules were synthesized with ethyl cellulose and octadecyl amine, which were added to epoxy resin to prepare self-healing coatings. The shape of microcapsules was spherical, the average particle size of microcapsules was about 100-120 μm, and the average thickness of microcapsules was 4.

Jammed Pickering Emulsion Gels.

Emulsion gels with specific rheological properties have widespread applications in foods, cosmetics, and biomedicines. However, the constructions of water-in-oil emulsion gels are still challenging, due to the limited interactions available in the continuous oil phase. Here, a versatile strategy is developed to prepare a new type of emulsion gels, called Jammed Pickering emulsion gels (JPEGs).

Symmetric Continuously Tunable Photonic Band Gaps in Blue-Phase Liquid Crystals Switched by an Alternating Current Field.

Symmetric continuously tunable three-dimensional (3D) liquid photonic crystals have been investigated using self-organized blue-phase liquid crystal films. The photonic band gap in the overall visible spectrum can be tuned continuously, reversibly, and rapidly as the applied electric field changes. After driven by the applied field, four-time enhancement of the reflectivity results in more vivid reflection colors.
