Magnon polarons are novel elementary excitations possessing hybrid magnonic and phononic signatures, and are responsible for many exotic spintronic and magnonic phenomena. Despite long-term sustained experimental efforts in chasing for magnon polarons, direct spectroscopic evidence of their existence is hardly observed. Here, we report the direct observation of magnon polarons using neutron spectroscopy on a multiferroic FeMoO possessing strong magnon-phonon coupling.

Utilizing the giant magnified dielectric constant ε of SrTiO(111) substrate with cooling, here we successfully manipulated the VHS in the epitaxial monolayer (ML) 1T-VSe film approaching to Fermi level via the large interfacial charge transfer, and thus induced a two-dimensional (2D) itinerant ferromagnetic state below 3.3 K.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFHafnium(IV) triflate (Hf(OTf)) has been identified as a potent catalyst for the direct three-component synthesis of β-carbamate ketones. This new method, featuring a low catalyst loading, fast reaction rate, and solvent-free conditions, provided facile access to a diversity of carbamate-protected Mannich bases. A mechanistic investigation indicated that the three-component reaction proceeds via sequential aldol condensation and aza-Michael addition, but not the Mannich-type pathway.

However, efficient and practical methods for the synthesis of these compounds are still limited. The current research provides an intensively improved synthetic method that enables the preparation of commercially available cyanoethyl-protected 5hmdC phosphoramidite with an overall yield of 39% on 5 g scale.

The triad not only maintains the photochromic properties of BTE moiety in solution, film, and solid state but also exhibits remarkable AIE properties. Moreover, the fluorescence of PMMA film could be modulated with high contrast by alternate UV and visible light irradiation.

In this article, a rapid sensor fault diagnosis (SFD) method is presented for a class of nonlinear systems. First, by exploiting the linear adaptive observer technology and the deterministic learning method (DLM), an adaptive neural network (NN) observer is constructed to capture the information of the unknown sensor fault function. Second, when the NN input orbit is a period or recurrent one, the partial persistent excitation (PE) condition of the NNs can be guaranteed through the DLM.

Experimental realisation of topological magnons in three dimensions has not been reported so far. Here, by measuring spin excitations (magnons) of a three-dimensional antiferromagnet CuTeO with inelastic neutron scattering, we provide direct spectroscopic evidence for the coexistence of symmetry-protected Dirac and triply degenerate nodes, the latter involving three-component magnons beyond the Dirac-Weyl framework.

More crucially, from the ultralow-temperature ac susceptibility measurements, we unambiguously observe frequency-dependent peaks around 0.1 K, indicating the spin-glass ground state.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFKitaev interactions underlying a quantum spin liquid have long been sought, but experimental data from which their strengths can be determined directly, are still lacking. Here, by carrying out inelastic neutron scattering measurements on high-quality single crystals of α-RuCl_{3}, we observe spin-wave spectra with a gap of ∼2 meV around the M point of the two-dimensional Brillouin zone. We derive an effective-spin model in the strong-coupling limit based on energy bands obtained from first-principles calculations, and find that the anisotropic Kitaev interaction K term and the isotropic antiferromagnetic off-diagonal exchange interaction Γ term are significantly larger than the Heisenberg exchange coupling J term.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFRecently, low-rank representation (LRR) has shown promising performance in many real-world applications such as face clustering. However, LRR may not achieve satisfactory results when dealing with the data from nonlinear subspaces, since it is originally designed to handle the data from linear subspaces in the input space. Meanwhile, the kernel-based methods deal with the nonlinear data by mapping it from the original input space to a new feature space through a kernel-induced mapping.

In the smart grid paradigm, growing integration of large-scale intermittent renewable energies has introduced significant uncertainties to the operations of an electric power system. This makes real-time dynamic security assessment (DSA) a necessity to enable enhanced situational-awareness against the risk of blackouts. Conventional DSA methods are mainly based on the time-domain simulation, which are insufficiently fast and knowledge-poor.
