: The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was updated in 2022 to refine patient stratification, particularly in patients with intermediate-stage (BCLC B) HCC. Although transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) remains a key treatment for these patients, there is no prognostic model for survival outcomes based on the pretreatment factors of patients who meet the updated 2022 BCLC indications for TACE. The aim of this study was to develop a pretreatment risk model predicting overall survival (OS) in patients with intermediate-stage HCC and reclassified as candidates for TACE according to the updated 2022 BCLC criteria.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate whether switching gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) can help reduce the recurrence of acute adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with their use during MRI exams.
  • From nearly 239,000 MRI exams between January 2016 and December 2021, 1,042 cases of acute ADRs were identified, with follow-up evaluations showing a recurrence rate of 31.9% among patients who experienced ADRs.
  • Results indicated that patients who switched to different GBCAs had a significantly lower recurrence of ADRs (14.3%) compared to those who remained on the same agent (36.9%), suggesting that changing

This study investigates the clinical and pathological outcomes of preoperative balloon-occluded transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (B-TACE) in patients with single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The data are from 25 consecutive patients who underwent sequential treatment of subsegmental B-TACE and hepatic surgery for single HCC. Radiological and pathological evaluation of oily subsegmentectomy, defined as the iodized oil-laden necrotic area that includes the entire HCC and surrounding liver parenchyma, were performed.

Background And Aim: Portosystemic shunt embolization (PSSE) is a promising treatment for hepatic encephalopathy (HEP) and gastric varix (GV) in cirrhotic patients with a spontaneous portosystemic shunt. However, PSSE may worsen portal hypertension causing hepatorenal syndrome, liver failure, and mortality. This study aimed to develop and validate a prognostic model that helps identify patients with a risk of poor short-term survival after PSSE.

Objectives: Many studies showed better outcomes of endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) when compared with percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (P-GBD) in which most tubes were left in situ. However, no studies have directly compared EUS-GBD with P-GBD after tube removal (ex situ). We compared the long-term outcomes of EUS-GBD and ex situ or in situ P-GBD in high surgical risk patients with acute cholecystitis.
