Ternary bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells (OSCs) utilize multiple donor and acceptor materials to enhance light absorption and improve performance.
The study introduced coumarin7 (C7) as a new electron-donor component in combination with traditional materials, resulting in a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.28%, which is a significant 35% increase compared to standard OSCs.
The improved efficiency is attributed to better charge transport and reduced recombination due to a compatible nanofiber morphology, suggesting that structurally diverse materials like coumarin derivatives can lead to high-performing ternary solar cells with further optimization.
