The accuracy of the calibration reference source polarization states directly influences the precision of the polarized optical remote sensor calibration, and thus affects the inversion accuracy of the characteristics of targets. In this paper, 870 nm horizontal linear polarized light has been chosen as the tested calibration reference light, modulated by rotating quarter-wave plate(QWP). The intensity as a Fourier series of the rotation angle of the plate and its coefficients were demodulated with the Fourier transform method, Stokes parameters can be calculated with these coefficients.

Background: Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) causes severe histological injury, reactive oxygen species activation, and cell apoptosis in the lung. In this study, we investigated, using a murine intestinal I/R model, the effect of a polyphenolic compound, protocatechuic acid (PCA), in modulation of ShcA and in protection of the lung from I/R-induced injury.

Methods: Fifty ICR mice were randomly divided into five groups, including a control group, intestinal I/R group, control + PCA group, I/R + PCA low-dose group, and I/R + PCA high-dose group.

Background: In an attempt to define the association of internal carotid artery atheromatous plaque morphology with potential cerebral ischaemia, we have investigated the relationship of different carotid plaque types with defects in cerebral perfusion.

Methods: In 130 patients requiring surgical correction of internal carotid artery stenoses greater than 70%, defects in cerebral perfusion due to both haemodynamic insufficiency and intracerebral vessel occlusion were identified using single photon emission computed tomography scans (SPECT). Carotid artery plaques in these patients were classified as homogeneous or heterogeneous based on preoperative Doppler Duplex Scanning and on the macroscopic characteristics of the plaques recorded by the surgeon during carotid endarterectomy, with sub-classification into potentially embolus-generating and non- embolus-generating plaques.

Salvianolic acid B (SalB) is an active component isolated from Chinese herbal medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza. The aim of this study was to investigate the extent of absolute oral bioavailability (F) of SalB in beagle dogs and the effect on blood viscosity after intravenous and oral administration of Salvianolic acids (SAs). A gradient elution HPLC method was developed and validated to determine the concentration of SalB and its three possible metabolites in plasma.
