The interactions between human serum albumin (HSA) and the hemostatic components of the Chinese medicine Sanguisorbae Radix (SR), specifically phenolic acid compounds such as caffeic acid (CA), ferulic acid (FA) and their 1:1 mixture (1:1) were studied to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying the hemostatic effect of SR. Network pharmacology combined with the experimental and computational data revealed that HSA is one of the hemostatic targets to SR phenolic acids. SDS-PAGE and multi-spectroscopy demonstrated that the phenolic acids bind to the Sudlow site I on HSA, altering its structure and influencing its migration velocity.

Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) equipped with the intelligent underwater object detection technique is of great significance for underwater navigation. Advanced underwater object detection frameworks adopt skip connections to enhance the feature representation which further boosts the detection precision. However, we reveal two limitations of standard skip connections: 1) standard skip connections do not consider the feature heterogeneity, resulting in a sub-optimal feature fusion strategy; 2) feature redundancy exists in the skip connected features that not all the channels in the fused feature maps are equally important, the network learning should focus on the informative channels rather than the redundant ones.

Transition-metal-catalyzed amination of aryl halides is one of the most employed methods for constructing -arylation adducts. However, the broad success of these reactions largely relies on the screening of precatalysts, elaborated ligands, and case-by-case optimization of reaction conditions (solvent, base, additive, temperature, ) for electronically or structurally diverse nucleophiles. Herein, we report an adaptive photochemical C-N coupling of aryl halides with various nitrogen nucleophiles (aliphatic and aromatic amines, amides, sulfonamides, pyrazoles, and ammonium salts) by Co(II) catalysis under the same reaction conditions (same precatalyst, same ligand, same base, same solvent, same temperature) without the addition of any exogenous photocatalyst.

Microorganisms in the sediment play a pivotal role in the functioning and stability of seagrass ecosystems and their dynamics are influenced by the nutrient acquisition strategies of host plants. While the distinct impacts of microbial generalists and specialists on community dynamics are recognized, their distribution patterns and ecological roles within seagrass ecosystems remain largely unexplored. To address this issue, we conducted an analysis of community assembly processes and co-occurrence relationships of both microbial generalists and specialists within sediment profiles (0-100 cm) from seagrass habitats subjected to differing land use conditions.

  • Hypokalemia (low potassium levels) has been linked to an increased risk of peritoneal dialysis (PD)-associated peritonitis, but this study investigates whether this association holds up when accounting for factors like malnutrition and other health conditions.
  • Researchers used a large national dataset to analyze the relationship between serum potassium levels and the occurrence of peritonitis, employing various statistical models to reduce bias between patients with and without hypokalemia.
  • Findings showed that while patients with potassium levels below 4.0 mmol/L had a higher incidence of peritonitis, when accounting for other variables, low potassium was not independently associated with a higher risk of peritonitis or treatment failure.
