We demonstrate flexible transmissive structural color filters with enhanced color purity and brightness by exploiting resonance overlap within multiple cavities in penta-layered structures. Using an inverse design method that combines optimization and exhaustive search algorithms, the material choices and layer thicknesses are determined through a loss function based on the CIE XYZ color space, optimizing both color purity and brightness. The resulting color gamut is comparable to standard RGB, as assessed in the CIE xy color space, with luminance (Y from CIE 1931 model) values for the fabricated transmissive RGB colors being 0.

Efficient light generation from triplet states of organic molecules has been a hot yet demanding topic in academia and the display industry. Herein, we propose a strategy for developing triplet emitter by creating heterostructures of organic chromophores and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). These heterostructures emit microsecond phosphorescence at room temperature, while their organic chromophores intrinsically exhibit millisecond phosphorescence under vibration dissipation-free conditions.

Physical unclonable functions (PUFs) have attracted interest in demonstrating authentication and cryptographic processes for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. We demonstrated four-dimensional PUFs (4D PUFs) to realize time-varying chaotic phosphorescent randomness on MoS atomic seeds. Organic fluorescent crystals were obtained using single-benzene-based diethyl 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalate (DDT) molecules through crystallization from a droplet of the DDT solution on an Au substrate. To control the size of the DDT crystals, the surface energy of the Au substrate was modified with air plasma treatment, producing a hydrophilic surface and a hydrophobic self-assembled monolayer (SAM) coating. Herein, we develop colorimetric multigas sensor arrays assembling chemo-reactive fluorescent patch arrays and 10 × 10 indium gallium zinc oxide phototransistor arrays and apply them to an artificial olfactory platform to recognize five different volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Porous nanofibers, coupled with two organic emitters and emitting fluorescence, rapidly respond to gas-phased VOCs and offer unique fluorescent patterns associated with particular gas conditions, including gas kinds, concentrations, and exposure times by forming patch arrays with different fluorophore component ratios. These VOC-induced fluorescent patterns could be quantified and amplified by indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) phototransistor arrays functioning as a signal-generating component, resulting in gas-fingerprint patterns regarding electrical signals.

Using scanning probe lithography (SPL) with KOH ink, this study fabricates aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)) nano- and microfeatures on a gold (Au) film that has been deposited on an aluminum (Al) layer. Hydroxyl ions (OH) from the KOH ink loaded onto the Au film can react with the underlying Al layer to form Al(OH) structures due to the decrease in the pH of the reacting solution. An enhancement of the local electric field at the metal/dielectric interface of hybrid materials due to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) phenomenon plays a particularly important role in versatile research fields resulting in a distinct modification of the electrical, as well as optical, properties of the hybrid material. In this paper, we succeeded in visually confirming the LSPR phenomenon in the crystalline tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq) micro-rod (MR) hybridized with silver (Ag) nanowire (NW) in the form of photoluminescence (PL) characteristics.
