- A case was reported of an 82-day-old infant who developed acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) after receiving the second dose of the oral polio vaccine (OPV).
- The infant, previously healthy and not on any medications, had a very low platelet count of 13×10(9)/L, with elevated platelet-associated IgG suggesting an immune response.
- After proper treatment, the infant recovered within 30 days, highlighting the need for awareness of potential thrombocytopenia linked to OPV, although it occurs less frequently compared to natural infections.
