Mitochondrial homeostasis is controlled by biogenesis, dynamics, and mitophagy. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a central role in cardiovascular and renal disease and omega-3 fatty acids (FAs) are beneficial for cardiovascular disease. We investigated whether omega-3 fatty acids (FAs) regulate mitochondrial biogenesis, dynamics, and mitophagy in the kidney and heart of adenine-induced uremic rats.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored the connection between the anion gap (AG) and patient mortality in ICUs, using data from 4229 patients in the MIMIC-IV database from 2008 to 2019, and extended the analysis through meta-analysis of additional databases.
  • - Results indicated that higher AG levels (T2 and T3) were significantly linked to increased in-hospital mortality rates, with adjusted hazard ratios of 1.31 and 1.54, respectively, compared to the lowest AG group (T1).
  • - The findings highlighted that both AG and corrected anion gap consistently predict mortality risk across diverse medical conditions in ICU settings.
