Examined in the study were results of conservative and surgical treatment of 202 patients presenting with Mallory-Weiss syndrome. Etiological factors of the syndrome were studied, investigations designed to study the regional bloodflow of the stomach in the zone of ruptures and intact areas, the motor and acid-producing functions of the stomach were conducted. Based on the conducted general clinical and special examination of patients with Mallory-Weiss syndrome the importance was proved of ischemic atrophic gastritis, discoordination of the motor and evacuatory function of the esophagus and duodenum in the genesis of the above syndrome, which disorders tend to be more manifest in sudden impacts of predisposing factors.

Of 1061 patients with an acute gastro-intestinal haemorrhage the combination of duodenal ulcer disease, Mallory-Weiss syndrome and sliding hiatal hernia was noted in 22 (2.07%). Surgical treatment consisted of the bleeding ulcer excision, cardia defects suturing, lowering of the stomach acid production performing one kind of vagotomy, external and internal decompression of stomach accomplishment (nasogastric tube and pyloroplasty), correction of anatomic-topographic interrelations of cardio-esophageal zone (cruroraphy, fundoplication).

Indications for the low-intensive laser application in preoperative procedure scheme were speculated on the ground of complex investigation data in 175 patients with gastrointestinal ulcerative hemorrhage (GIUH). Indications for intravascular laser blood irradiation (IVLBI), for the projectional action on thymus, spleen and their combined application are established. For the reliable hemostasis guarantee the conduction of laser therapy is the most effective one.

The technique for performance of gastrectomy under conditions of emergency surgery permitting to shorten the duration of intervention and increase its effectiveness is presented. Gastrectomy was performed in 7 patients with gastric cancer complicated by profuse bleeding. All the patients are alive, no anastomotic suture failure occurred.

An analysis of surgical treatment of 100 patients with malignant tumors of the stomach with using total gastrectomy has shown that postoperative lethality made up 90%, unfavorable results of using total gastrectomy being associated with insufficient sutures of the esophageal-intestinal anastomosis. The modified method used allows to elevate reliability of the esophageal intestinal anastomosis, to shorten the time of operative procedure. Total gastrectomy followed by chemotherapy in the postoperative period prolongs the patient's life, but does not secure against recurrences of the disease in later terms.

The results of planned population surveys for opisthorchiasis performed by teams of epidemiologists in 11 districts of Chernigov Province have been reviewed. 130,067 individuals in 156 communities have been examined. All the communities were situated not more than 5 km from the main water artery of the area--the Desna River and its main tributaries--the Seim, the Ubed', the Doch', the Borzna.
