Introduction: Predicting the success of smoking cessation might be crucial to guide towards the treatment of smoking dependence in a clinical setting. We analyzed the potential determinants of successful smoking cessation with a specific focus on self-efficacy in predicting quitting smoking.
Methods: All consecutive smokers (n=478; 224 men and 254 women) attending the Careggi University Hospital Smoking Cessation Service in Florence (Italy) in 2018-2019 provided information on self-efficacy in predicting smoking cessation, using a 1-10 rating scale during their first visit.
Introduction: The implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) has been demonstrated to successfully prevent sudden cardiac death (SCD) in children and young adults. A wide range of device-related complications/malfunctions have been described, which depend on the intrinsic design of the defibrillation system (transvenous-implantable cardioverter defibrillator [TV-ICD] vs. subcutaneous-implantable cardioverter defibrillator [S-ICD]).

Design: An observational cross-sectional study conducted between June 2019 and May 2020 at Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy. A new questionnaire, The Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MEDI-Q), was developed and administered to a group of healthy women (n = 418) of fertile age (18-50 years), without known uterine, psychiatric disorders, or both.
Background: CEDM has demonstrated a diagnostic performance similar to MRI and could have similar limitations in breast cancer (BC) detection.
Purpose: The aim of our study was to systematically analyze the characteristics of the lesions with the absence of enhancement with CEDMs, called false-negatives (FNs), in order to identify which clinical, radiological, histological and molecular parameters are associated with the absence of enhancement of known BCs with CEDMs, and which types of BC are most likely to cause FNs in CEDMs. We also tried to evaluate which parameters instead increased the probability of showing enhancement in the same context.
Left atrial appendage (LAA) is the dominant source of systemic thromboembolic (TE) events in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF). In patients with significant bleeding risk, various LAA exclusion strategies have been developed as an alternative to pharmacologic TE prophylaxis. Nevertheless, in a relatively small percentage of patients, incomplete LAA closure can be documented, either at the time of procedure or during follow-up.

This is a large-scale single-center experience which evaluates the role of CEDM in presurgical staging and its impact on surgical planning. The aims of this retrospective study were to define the diagnostic performance of CEDM in the presurgical setting and to identify which types of patients could benefit from having CEDM.

Then, we selected retrospectively, among the 1500 patients underwent to CEDM at the Breast Diagnostics Department of the Careggi University Hospital of Florence and the National Cancer Institute of Milan from September 2016 to November 2018, 31 women (mean age 57.1 aa; range 41-78 aa) with a definitive histological diagnosis of ILC.

Methods: The local ethics committee approved this retrospective study and for this type of study formal consent is not required. A total of 42 B3 lesions in 40 women aged 41-77 years were included in our study.
