Background: In 2015, the Australian government froze the Medicare Benefits Schedule Rebate (MBSR) for General Practitioner (GP) service use. This paper aimed to explore the impact of the MBSR freeze on the demand for GP services in Victoria, Australia, for three years, from 2014 to 2016.

Method: Annual data on GP service utilisation by the Victorian State Statistical Area Level 3 (SA3) were analysed using 2015 as the reference year (MBSR freeze year).

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is one of the most widely cultivated foods in the world and is of great socio-economic importance, especially in developing countries. It is predominantly consumed in boiled form, but also is used to produce a number of products, including cassava starch, sour starch, cassava flour and tapioca flour (hydrated cassava starch). Fungal spoilage can occur throughout the production chain, impairing both productivity and quality, as well as posing a potential risk of contamination by mycotoxins.

Background: The primary objective of this study was to determine the effect of single versus multiple rounds of intra-articular hyaluronic acid (IA-HA) in delaying the need for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with knee OA, and if additional benefits were seen when used in conjunction with other multimodal treatment options.

Methods: This study was a retrospective claims analysis of a large commercial database containing more than 100 million patients with continuous coverage from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2015. Time to TKA for patients who received one course of Euflexxa (IA-BioHA) were compared to patients who received two or more courses of IA-BioHA and patients who received no IA-HA.

Cycloidal mass analyzers are unique sector mass analyzers as they exhibit perfect double focusing, making them ideal for incorporating spatial aperture coding, which can increase the throughput of a mass analyzer without affecting the resolving power. However, the focusing properties of the cycloidal mass analyzer depend on the uniformity of the electric and magnetic fields. In this paper, finite element simulation and charged particle tracing were used to investigate the effect of field uniformity on imaging performance of a cycloidal mass analyzer.

Despite many potential applications, miniature mass spectrometers have had limited adoption in the field due to the tradeoff between throughput and resolution that limits their performance relative to laboratory instruments. Recently, a solution to this tradeoff has been demonstrated by using spatially coded apertures in magnetic sector mass spectrometers, enabling throughput and signal-to-background improvements of greater than an order of magnitude with no loss of resolution. This paper describes a proof of concept demonstration of a cycloidal coded aperture miniature mass spectrometer (C-CAMMS) demonstrating use of spatially coded apertures in a cycloidal sector mass analyzer for the first time.

The use of coded apertures in mass spectrometry can break the trade-off between throughput and resolution that has historically plagued conventional instruments. Despite their very early stage of development, coded apertures have been shown to increase throughput by more than one order of magnitude, with no loss in resolution in a simple 90-degree magnetic sector. This enhanced throughput can increase the signal level with respect to the underlying noise, thereby significantly improving sensitivity to low concentrations of analyte.

The wide-ranging adoption of quantum technologies requires practical, high-performance advances in our ability to maintain quantum coherence while facing the challenge of state collapse under measurement. Here we use techniques from control theory and machine learning to predict the future evolution of a qubit's state; we deploy this information to suppress stochastic, semiclassical decoherence, even when access to measurements is limited. First, we implement a time-division multiplexed approach, interleaving measurement periods with periods of unsupervised but stabilised operation during which qubits are available, for example, in quantum information experiments.
